A large portion of the population parties. Another portion stays at home. Still yet another part takes part in religious "festivities." I was part of the latter group this year. This is a steeple of the church where I spent the larger portion of NYE. I am representing the part of society that prays in the New Year instead of drinking it in.

Well...I liked this one right from the first time I saw it. The lighting is very well exposed Karma, and there are no overexposed, blown-out hot spots, yet there is still some detail visible within the shaded area. Very well done!
The background is appropriately black to provide good contrast. The symmetrycal composition works well here.
The only thing that needs work, is the glare near the peak of the roof. Although it couldn't be done for the challenge, it can be easily cloned out.
I like the way you framed the picture with a color from the image.
Nice job Karma. A lovely image!

Beautifully done. It's perfectly exposed. The composition is brilliant from the top of the steeple to the perfectly cropped roof with the wonderful window that you thankfully kept in the shot completely. Excellent. I gave you an 8 but after reading my own critique - how 'bout a 10!

This is a beautilful photograph. I wouldn't have understood the point of the photo without the title though.

Hope you mean you spent it here. This is beautiful. I'm glad you left the unlit part on. That adds so much to it. There's not a thing wrong with this that I can find, and I've looked hard. I really like the frame, and I usually don't care for them. Fantastic job. I'd give it a 10 if I could. PTL

This is almost a perfect shot. There are some light spots on the church above the window. I hope you don't get hammered for being different.

This doesn't scream "New Years" to me but it is an exceptional image. I love the lighting. I notice a strange reflection on the front facade (dark greenish area) by the point abovce the round window. Sort of a yellowish reflection? Real annoying and my eye goes right to it now that I noticed it. Easy enought to remove. Is it a reflection?

An absolutely beautiful shot. 10

it's not centered, that is the only thing that bugs me, besides the fact that it really doesn't meet the intention of the challenge

The title explains it, but otherwise this would just be a shot of a church. I wish it had something to do with the Ney Year to more than one person.

Lovely shot! Not so typical New Year, but high score anyway. Nice composition and colours. I´m a fan of borders so that´s great too. Well done!

There is a lighting, focus, and composition factor here that plays well...
Althought the interest level for me is low, the shot is exceptional...
Very well done!

Although, I don't quite see the relevance to the challenge, but a great achitectural shot nevertheless. Hence the reason for a higher than average score.
