Having suggested this challenge, I had to enter it! The recipe is my Mum's and though she doesn't use a heart-shaped mould, as I did, they are served up with butter (actually margarine here, in this case) and real sirop d'erable, NOT *table* syrup!!! She actually makes these little pancakes and much larger crepes, but I've always loved the little pancakes.

Recipe: 1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tbsp white sugar
1 egg
1 cup milk
1 tbsp cooking oil
1 tsp baking soda
1 small pinch salt (optional)

Put ingredients in a large mixing bowl and beat until all ingredients are well mixed. Lightly grease a frying pan with butter or margarine and heat on medium-high til it's lightly smoking. Spoon batter into frying pan to make approx 3'in rounds. Flip after about a minute and let brown on the other side. Serve hot.

A few extra notes. I doubled this recipe, used large eggs, 2% milk and in this case, olive oil - it was all I had kicking around and worked perfectly well.

Instead of greasing the frying pan with butter or margarine, I cooked up some bacon in the frying pan and poured off almost all of the grease. What little was left was used to cook the pancakes in.

As for the shoot...piled pancakes on a plate, the freshest ones on top. Shot with ambient window light, camera on tripod, then got the butter and maple syrup going....ohh yumm...and used the gold side of my reflector to enhance the tones. Eh wala.

pp: altered RAW, brightness/contrast, vibrance/saturation, crop, clone out stray bits of pancake, burn highlights on butter, resize, sharpen, save for web.

I think the color is somewhat off here. The light is really yellow making the pancakes look a little unappetizing. Also the light should be uch more diffuse. Here you have a lot of specular highlights. Lastly you got a little too close as the shape of the heart is lost.

Pancakes are one of the best meals, any time of day :)

The photo itself doesn't seem to show off the delicious nature of pancakes.
