The funny thing is that on my crappy work monitor, this shot has a whole lot less appeal. Not anywhere close to as contrasty or 3D like. Maybe everyone's monitors just stink....

Interesting subject. I find the background detracts however. You could have cropped much closer perhaps? e.g. just show head to chin.
