Caught these two insects and left them in a glass jar outside overnight in 40 degree weather. This left them very lethargic when I went out the next morning. Placed them on the inside lip of my concrete bird bath. Got off about 8 shots before the grass hopper jumped away. I'm guessing most will think they were dead, due to the setting and their proximity.

Bummer, this scored lower than I hoped it would. Damn you unrealistic DPC saturation standards, damn you!

The lighting and balance of tones in this image are fantastic. It's almost deceiving how natural it looks while still looking so perfectly lit in all the right places. At first glance the image appears pretty flat, but I think that's only because it's mashed between a multitude of other strongly saturated DPC photos. There's very subtle reds and greens that come out the more you stare. The DOF is great too.
