Winogrand suggests looking through the viewfinder, and I generally prefer to do that myself. But I took the little Lumix with me when I took the nephews to Universal Studios and the Griffith Observatory, and I can't see a thing on the back of that in the sunlight. Nor does it even have a viewfinder. So I often shoot from hip or waist level, hoping my aim is halfway decent.
While fine street photography this is not, it is at least a journaling of our times, when you see more people using phones and tablets rather than cameras to take pictures.
And I always have gotten a kick out of taking pictures of tourists taking pictures. :-)

Turned scores off when this hit 5.3. Perhaps I'd best find something else to be my "thing" since it is apparent "Street" no longer is.
Sigh. I do love it so, though. Shooting street...
Didn't even hit my own average. This is the one, I think, that has pushed me over the top. So thanks for that. It really is quite mediocre and even boring to most. So after my 500th entry, which I haven't entered yet, it is time to stop.
I have been on DPC for more than eight years. I was never one of the immediately talented gang ( Gyaban, jagar, vawendy) nor one of the "you can learn so much and flourish here" gang ( tanguera, Yo_Spiff, PennyStreet). I started out in the mediocre range (a good photographer) and I remain in the mediocre range (a good photographer with a nice camera!). I don't think commenting any more or studying the works of our top performers here will help. I have my little niche, and it is squarely in the mid-40-60%ile range most of the time. Me, and lots of others hang out here. We don't wow you. We don't make you break out that fav button. We provide the middle, the padding, the ladder for those of you who habitate the top of the pile. So we're useful and all. But I'm tired and discouraged. I do know this shot isn't top ten. I do. But this is the best I CAN do these days. So there it is. The sad thing? I do like this picture. It makes me smile. |

Street photography is about capturing a scene that is usually accepted by more viewers if it has some unusual interest. It's not about how the final image is processed. Street photography should be minimal editing, not advanced. Too many think it has to be some eye appealing thing, it does not. If this image makes you smile, then by all means, continue with what makes you smile. |
