angeles / angels

A simple look at classism and racism, if the desire to see it is there. The negative space is an implied swastika that evolved as I arranged, and trimmed, the images. The bottom image is uncropped.

The properly classed folks in South Orange County would never have a one stop shop for divorce, tax, and sweet 16 parties. The energy of the foreground man captivated my attention, as did the worry and agitation of the second man. I see a pair of family men with the laundry list on that window running through their head. How do they care and provide for their Angels? Do I care? I hope so, because I know it's easier for me.

The survivor. Drugs. Gang life. Profiling. Past indiscretions of the LAPD. Cliche for moviegoers who don't recognize the reality, and for those of us who don't live it. Cliche for the young, potentially privileged, woman waltzing in to the scene. That is not a fair presumption, I don't know her story, but it's implied. They both need their Angels, even if it is a social surrogate to get them off the street.

Pushed in to a corner, by choice, a barbed wire fence looming over her head. Certainly not the Angel her mother described in stories when she was a child. She sits and sells, sending money back home, providing something for her own Angels, wondering when she will see the other side of the fence again. I doubt she wants to, but I'm sure she dreams of it.

Los Angeles. City of Angels.

You have created one of the most compelling sequences I have seen around here for a long time. Each of the images make me long to zoom out and see a little bit more of the picture - a notion excelled by that image at the bottom.

The fact that there is a word tying this all together is a bonus I am deprived of at the moment, but I am hopeful to decipher it later in the week.

ETA: giving up on the mystery word, though I feel that I could be enlightened by simply zooming out on that task too.

Thank you.

Oh oh. Don't speak Spanish. I think this is serious. What is the word for "disappeared" or maybe "divorced"?

The images don't seem to "flow" in this triptych, although I like all three of them.

It seems "disjointed"...
