| Love the beach and I grew up in Hampton Roads, although I live in San Francisco now. Very familiar with this lighthouse ;). Great shot. Thanks for commenting on my "Cinco" shot earlier today in the "Pick your favorite from the person above..." thread. You asked about the birds, they are actually Willets I believe...not sure actually. They are pretty common out here in beaches of NorCal. Take it easy! |

This is a lovely photo. At first I felt it was a little dark but I found that darkness to be appropriate and added greatly to the overall mood. There is power and drama in the lighting and composition and it works quite well as a black and white. There is strong sense of motion in the grass I even thought I saw it move once. Probably just too much coffee for me. I'm not quite sold on the cropping, though. Maybe only because I am so used to a more conventional crop. It seems like ther might be a little more sky than necessary. It's one of those images that demands to be seen large so the viewer can enjoy all of the interesting details in the grass and the lighthouse. Without seeing the original scene or the original photo I am hardpressed to find anything significant to change except for maybe the proportion of the crop and that is iffy. It appears to be very clean and sharp. It clearly nails the challenge theme. I also like the simple border. If all borders were handled this way I would be more in favor of them. Ok, I found one thing to nitpick. That one piece of grass that is standing straight up should be leaning too :- ) Awesome photo. Congratulations.

Who gave this shot a 1 or a 2????? Had to be someone trying to get the score down. It is a shame people have to be so lame as to do stuff like that.

You have your ribbon!!! Congrats this is a terrific image. Was it as nice in color? Black and White seems to make images much more dramatic. Keep up the good work.

For this challenge I have not been giving high marks for destination shots, only pics that deal with travelling. However this one deserves high marks regardless. But I guess you can look at it as travel, ships do need light houses don't they?

| This is one heck of an image. I say chuck away all those tinsel town glamour shots. And sink your eyeballs into something with real merit like this fabulous work. I am in quivering rapture from the feel of those brooding clouds, the stark two tone lighthouse, the brilliant juxtaposition of grasses and sky tones and the emphatic border. Beautiful is a sheer undestatement here. You must recieve many more compliments upon this image. It is a work of art. I am going to give you a 10 to make up for those other fools who absently knee jerk a 5 score. OK you got me grovelling for more gorgeous B&W in future challenges. I won\'t settle for anything less. Wish I had taken this one. My first (and only) 8 so far. Excellent job. I love the shadows and the contrast in this image. I would have prefered to see the whites in the lighthouse a little brighter. If there was more of that I would have scored it a 9.
In any event this is an excellent image and one I would love to have hanging on my wall.
