As Christianity fades and secularism leaves a void, a new coping system emerges, maybe it's the full circle. Interesting study and wonderful to see a photo that can evoke such sentiments. |

Thought I posted this but don't see it. I think you are right - the oldest girl looks too young to be their mother. Does not affect the overall impact of the image though. jagar said it well |

Lovely picture, inocence slowly fades as society spins its web of dogma. |

Originally posted by nam: I REALLY want to know the story here. The light is amazing as are the positions and expressions of all the subjects. I assume the mother is praying. The oldest daughter may be, too, or she may just be thinking and, as the title suggests, envisioning her future. The way her posture echoes her mother's but turned a bit and the fact that she is set away from both her mother and the group of younger children are very evocative. Wow. |
well, I wish I knew more than you about them, but I don't... Still, my interpretation is slightly different. I don't think it's their mother, this is just another, slightly older girl, but she is already wearing a headscarf. The young girls so far can dress and play free, like any other kids of their age, but I imagine they already realize that the headscarf is likely in their future. And then, after they get married, maybe a full-length burka? So, is this in their future? And is this the future of Turkey in general? Who knows?... But at the moment (formerly) rather secular Turkish society does seem to move toward embracing Islam, and fast...

I want to know more about their situation and lives. For me, a good character study has this effect. Nicely done. |
