This is Mimi, a young Silver-Laced Wyandotte chicken.

I would have preferred to have more DOF to get the beak in focus too, but chickens move quickly, and it's a challenge to get even an eye in focus, especially when the chicken's flock mates are pecking my legs as I shoot. I was using shallow DOF to blur the unattractive background.

Even though she might look mean in this image, she's quite a nice chicken who likes to be petted.

I think this is adorable! As far as chickens can be adorable. :-)

Excellent shallow DOF and super crisp focus on the eye, Great Compo.

Well, that's up close and personal! Can't fault your focus, but subjectively, I would have preferred a slightly deeper depth of field allowing for the beak to remain in focus too.

Nice clear eye, but I think a deaper DOF would have been better for this shot. I don't mind the blur on the body, which isolates the face, but I would like to see the whole face in focus.

A good closeup of the eye. Can't determine species.

I LOVE that eye!

I want more of the beak in focus, too... but this is such a fun shot!
