You image is about negative sppace more than back lighting. The small part that is backlit is very busy and cluttered.

I don't think the subject is strong enough to anchor all that negative space. I do like the light patterns on the leaves, though.

Maybe a little too much negative space. With such a minimalist subject, I think the subject has to really draw the eye and command the attention. I think the leaves in the corner are a bit too... chaotic or disorganized.

I like what you have tried here but it is just a little too much open space and more highlight in the leaves would have been better.
