this is a field of small flags in front of a church near my home. the flags were placed for memorial day, each flag represented an american life lost in iran and afghanistan.

i thought immediately of lennons lyrics...imagine there's no countries...it's easy if you can....nothing to kill or die for...a brotherhood of man.

i got a comment referring to the song as a communist song. not sure how someone can perceive a song about peace and the end of strife as communist, i hope the majority of viewers understand i desaturated it to empathize with the concept of "no countries", and not out of a communist wish.

thanks for taking the time to read this, i hope you like the image.

post challenge - not sure what happened to the title here, but its:

I like it - well seen.
Funny how some people thought the title was controversial - but the song does what great art does: asks us to turn the world inside-out and consider how things could possibly be different … whether or not it is possible is all up to us.
Personally I bet many military veterans and families would consider a world without the need for war a better world than the one we live in now.

As with all great work - the photo and the context causes us to question something and truly imagine.

Personally, I don't think Imagine is a 'communist' song, whatever the term means in the mind of many.
But Lennon was a pacifist who thought very little of national identities and very highly of humanity as a whole.
So, no offence taken I hope, but I think he would have found extremely ironic the association of that specific song with a national flag, particularly when the nation in question is a superpower.
And perhaps would have found saddening to see Imagine associated with the idea that war, violence and strenuous patrolling of one own borders are necessary means to peace. Not certainly the enduring peace he singed of.
I guess the commenter simply considers 'communist' anything contradicting the above idea of 'peace', as it would be peace and freedom of constrictions for everybody, not just some. In that sense he is right, that's what the song was meant to say, accordingly to Lennon.

ETA: sorry, i realize my comment was uncalled for as I am only restating what you say in your comment to the image
Than, songs are like photographs, once they are out people will do what the feel with them, that's always a risk and a joy :)

good work - Marvelous tight, compressed view of the flags with a remarkably appropriate sepia tone.

The song's about communism, etc. Life would be better under the rule of Stalin or Hitler? Right?

Imagine.. we are not Gods, just animals.
Imagine.. animals not killing or dieing to survive.
Imagine.. no life on Earth.

It's not that hard

This is a great image; wich the front flags were a little more in focus and then fade to shallow dof.

Poignant. Are they supporters waving flags or flags waving above graves...
