A big Thank You to the SC for the quick ruling and validation that occurred while voting was still in effect.

[May. 8th, 2012 03:33:16 PM]

Got a validation request this morning so I am most interested in what the SC rules on this one.

Regardless of the SC ruling, this is getting the smackdown from some voters who I think believe that the text was added illegally. I am debating on if I should start a new thread after rollover to remind people that to it violates the site's rules to :
"give an entry a lower score because you believe it violates the Challenge Rules."

Title says it all really.

I spend waaaayyy too much time on this. I printed out the word "Thoughts" on a long thin sheet of poster paper that I then glued to the another poster paper that is 22 X 28.

Now all the time spend:

The Font printed on Paper. I choose the Han Solo Font for it's big thick letters and bolded it. To get that warped look I then warped it, perspective vertical, select some letters and warp & perspective separate, then twirl on a some of the individual letters. After all the printing I looked and saw that I messed up on the "U" - with the individual warping it developed a little hard edge on the bottom left. Argh, well it was printed on paper so I was not about to go futz with it more and waste the poster paper.
2 hours

Calling to find and then going out to a liquor store to find a 50ml bottle of Crystal Head Vodka and a plain shotglass. The best enjoyment out of this damn shot is that my husband and I got to have a shotglass each of the vodka which is top shelf stuff.
1.25 hours

I first printed the words on regular sheet of paper but the white of that and the poster paper stuck to wall was very different. Fiddled with the set up for a long time when decided to cut long thin pieces of poster paper to fit into printer and then glue that to poster size paper. Curved the paper so that it would be seamless. Still the set up did not look right so printed out black piece of paper, cut it to shape and stuck it to the shotglass with end coming out and taped down to the letter "T".
1 hour

I wanted to cut off the stem but did not have a dremel tool to do so. So several hours of trying a way to bounce the light on several different types of paper taped to the stem to blow the highlights I found one. I had some shots with the stem. (After all that trouble to blow out the stem with lighting I decided to go with the one with the stem because it fit better)
2 hours

Lighting several different configurations and arranging the objects for different positions.
2.5 hours

Total prep and shooting time : 8 hours and 45 minutes. 173 shots taken

An awful lot of time invested and rewarded with a 5.38. I've been there. In all honesty and illegit low votes aside, you have to step back and look at the final product objectively - for all the effort put in, it just doesn't work, IMO. The composition, the scale of the shotglass and the skull seem weird and I don't really get the visual concept/message as it relates to the title, but then some people obviously did. The bright side is that you got to drink the vodka. :)

Hope you don't take that as too harsh - whaddo I know anyway. :)

I did not vote on this image. I thought the font was either faked or just poorly done. Lots of work as I can tell, but the net result doesn't look like a spill to me. That said, the border was distracting and unneeded (not a widescreen shot. The composition also didn't work for me. Had I voted on it as it stands, I would have given it a 5. (Sorry)

I wasn't sure how you achieved the text but you have to assume it is legal until proven otherwise. I thought it was nicely shot and clever so gave it a 7. Judging by the votes it would appear not everyone knows the rules.
