Thanks for all the great comments. I spent over an hour shooting the hippos' that day. I originally only planned to use one for the Dallas challenge, but my other panning efforts were all so blah. For those unsure whether this was panned or not, I can assure you it was. There is a glass wall about 30 feet long. The only way to take shots while they are moving is to pan. They move very quickly. I thought it would be evident by the blur on the fish and the debris (which is straw) in the water. Anyone stopping in NJ, I'd be more than happy to take you to the aquarium here for a day and you can try it yourself.

This is by far my favorite picture in the challenge. You captured such striking a motion in the creature. I would say the composition isn't exactly perfect, but the sheer emotion and whimsical nature of the image totally and captures the viewer.
