Thanks for the lovely comments!

I was initially hoping to get an interesting shot of a buoy (or three) in the water. Then I found a stash of them taken out of the water for the winter, and realized I could photograph the part that is normally submerged, with all those interesting textures.

Converted from Raw, cropped, processed with Nik SEP 2, darkened a light colored area in upper left corner, sharpened, added border, saved for web.

It helped that the buoy's basic color was blue and it was the only blue in the image, so I could adjust the blue channel in the conversion to B&W to achieve the tone I wanted for the areas not covered by mussels etc.

Good find for the title and very nice processing of the textures especially given the low resolution of the posted result. Beautifully rendered bw tones make this so sweet to view. My personal taste doesn't understand the bars. Is this supposed to be a tv image, which is the only place we ever see these things - a necessity because of the fixed aspect ratio of the screen. In an art gallery, it sould probably be displayed something like this with a plain white frame:
I love the shot but the bars are a distraction. A 9 for that reason only - should have been a 10.
