So.....I got this idea that maybe there'd be some interest in a place to post up those "Accidental Shootings" that happen to us in the normal course of life.

The idea is that you can post images, with a brief description of what, when, where, why, and how they occurred.

This occurred to me because I went to a local street fair yesterday, and got some shots of people that I liked and realized I really had nothing to do with them.

No rules.......if you got something that interested you enough to go to the trouble of editing and liking them enough to want people to see 'em, go for it.

So....

These are shots from the Corn Festival in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.

I love getting these accidental shootings.......it justifies/rationalizes dragging my camera EVERYWHERE I go......

If this doesn't take off as an idea, I'll probably keep it alive all by myself just to have fun with the captures of life that I get that don't really have a home.

Tell me what you think of the idea......either by your comments, or your images!

Here are some of mine when I accidentally tripped in my tropical garden and clicked the button and produced these ghostly images.

The back ground photo of some guys on the road in Sudan was the kind of picture you take when your elbow bumps the shutter and you dont know it till later. Even though it was OOF, I saved it thinking it might come in handy someday. And it did.

Since this is Accidental Shootings, is Dick Cheney a DPC member?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Great idea! I have plenty!

One that I was very tempted to use in the best of 2007. Taken during the St. Augustine GTG:

From the same GTG, and in the same vein as Jeb's shots, we have random person #5:

And random person #6:
Actually, this is one of the shots from that GTG that I really liked and it's not a random person at all. This is idnic talking to her daughter on the phone.

And then a few from around Charleston:
Magnolia Plantation.

Shem's Creek.

Waterfront Park.

Caper's Island.

Here's a new one from me. This was in Montana in July.

This was found by "mining" an image for small bits that look like a photo.

I was about to shoot this crooked shed when the biker suddenly appeared and made it into a much better image.

Lunch time.

Like I said, I drag my camera with me everywhere.....this is how pretty that day looked out the back door of church.

The REAL photographer stepped in my way at a friends wedding and I got this shot here which is one I like.

A morning at Watch Hill. My son was watching the water and the fishermen.

So I stopped in at a friend's gift shop, and this woman was in the hallway.....

I love the strange kind of portraits possible with mannequins.

taken at pro surfing contest.you'd think someone sponsored by a
surfwear company would have a pair of boardshorts that fit.

This is what I truly had in mind with my whole Accidental Shootings concept....

[thumb]720835[/thumb]

This is from the shot below....

[thumb]720838[/thumb]

I was playing around trying to get a shot of the dancers in *NO* light, and I didn't even see this strange glimpse 'til I went back and was examining this batch of images to see if I could gather any more to give to the mother whose daughter was having the birthday party.

I'd love any feedback....

I love this whole highlighted in red thing with the title of the thread in the thread.....at least that's what it looks like when you open the thread from the search engine.

Another of my Accidental Shootings.....

[thumb]722009[/thumb]

I was trying to get the effect that dusk and the full moon created last night at my daughter's soccer practice. The coaches just keep 'em playing 'til it's too dark.

So.....I'm driving down a road I've driven for at least three years now on a regular basis, and I see this lady scooping up her cat as she's rounding the corner of the barn.

You do know that that is not a cat right?

ROFLMSOAO!!!!

Umm.....yeah.....

That's what I meant that made me all but bounce myself off the steering wheel getting stopped. It's not unusual to see someone scooping up their barn kitty, and I didn't really think much about it 'til I noticed out of the corner of my eye that the "kitty" was kinda strange looking.

The silly 'coon was just like a combination of cat and dog with its interminable inquisitiveness and the way he followed her around. He was a nice boy....just about four months old and completely hand tame.

So.....at this point in my life, I'm at least reasonably comfortable with the fact that I'm weird. I have a question for you guys. Do you sometimes just feel this uncontrollable urge to photograph something that is just extraordinarily plebian, but something about it just forces you to take a shot of it and play with the processing 'cause something about it just struck you?

This stupid fire hydrant was just sitting there gleaming with a fresh coat of paint in this kind of faded neighborhood setting, so I thought I'd try and capture the incongruity of its gleaming-ness......

Did I?
      [thumb]723291[/thumb]

Is it kinda cool? Or am I that weird?????

LOL!!!
09/20/2008 07:55:14 PM · #22
You're just that weird. That's why we love ya around these parts, though. :)

Seriously, though. . . maybe some selective desat on the background and . . . make a separate layer for the background area and do some grunge overlay type processing on it to really drive home the gleaming fresh paint job vs grunge background thing.

Ok, maybe I'm too into this weird thing myself. . .

The quintessential accident, DPC style. I just couldn't get B&W in Color out of my head!

So there I am, at 4:20 in the morning, shooting for B&W in Color........too bad that's NOT the current challenge!

[thumb]723507[/thumb]

I like it, but it doesn't do me any good!

So....I was up & about at about 3:30 this morning, the moon was bright, so I thought I'd see what I could see.......

The marble maiden was in an undertaker's garden, the cake was in a little shop off the square in Carlisle that I'd never seen before, the café scene just isn't the same during the day, the mansion is the same on that's my Overexposed challenge entry, and the plane is just a seriously favorite subject of mine.

That should do it for my shooting jones for a little while......NOT!!! LOL!!!
