Was it that bad?
//www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=93854

It even scored lower than my first entry.. which was way too blurry.
//www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=92691

on the positive side.. avg (commenters) increased from 4.3 to 5.7

Those votes prolly came from people who can't spell

Cool idea, but the objects are really small in the frame there. If you coulda gotten closer and still fit the word in, it woulda done better I think.

I also thought I had a personal best image! But no!
I realy worked on this one, if I'm going to do better I need to get me some better equipment for lighting.

about 5 seconds in Photoshop would improve this dramatically i my eyes. just tweaking the curves a little would make it pop i think. You could also dodge the highlights on your model, which is a little more accurate (and takes a little more practice to make it look natural). It just seems really flat to me. cool idea tho.

People have different opinions bout what is bad. But I'm just so happy or what.

I did find my picture funny, sharp with good contrast and meet the challenge description very well.

So beeing over 50% can't be bad but I would have been even more happier if the average voting would have gone over 5.0.

But those who made comments were great since they gave me on average 7.0. It seems to me the rest didn't understand my picture or have never seen an irion in their live. Is that possible?

Hey. my image got a ribbon, and still had 2 1's!!
If you look at the last placed images, they all had at least a 9 or a 10!!

I didn't comment but interestingly I did give it a 7. I hate to admit it but I've tried this before. Of course the iron was set on low and didn't work that well but hey, when you're already running late and see that you missed a spot when you ironed it earlier you're willing to give it a try. I think it was an interesting look into daily life. Perhaps people didn't relate or just didn't see this as an interesting composition. Who knows.

I just dont get the way people vote! I mean, my image meet the challenge, had proper exposure, good lighting and composition and I still got 1's, 2's, amd 3's. I never give out those low votes unless the shot is so poor, out of focus, not meeting the challenge etc.

Not that I thought it would win, but I thought it was at least a 5 or 6 vote.

This baffled me as well!! I gave it a nine (shoulda bumped to a 10) but when I saw how many low votes you got, I was just simply stunned.

Just goes to show, you never can tell.....

I have to agree that I don't understand a rating of 1-3 for this image of yours smokeditor, but not either all of the 10's it got. But hey, that's the good thing about this site, people have very variable taste for the photographs, and that's how it should be. I surely hope that other people that are taking a part in the challenges aren't rating the "best" photos low because they're afraid of them getting higher average rating than theirs. I think your photo should have a higher average rating, but that's just my opinion.

My $.02 Probably over neat imaged a little, and not all that artistic/nice to look at. I'd have still probably given it a 5. I think maybe you tried a little too hard to meet the challenge also.

Considering it was what, one of twenty toothbrush shots, I thing it did really well.

Do most people vote low if somebody else had a similar idea? That doesn't seem right to me. I vote each photo on its individual merits.

As it should be.

It was an everyday object challenge so there were bound to be duplicates but that really shouldn't matter. We're voting on the quality of the photograph or at least we should be.

Not only the quality, but the creativity of the photograph should be factor. Anyone can take a picture of a notepad but how creative can you be when taking it?

Yes definitely, Thanks for adding that! :-)

When I see the same subjects, I do tend to vote a little lower. Unless the concept does better. In the latest miniature challenge there were at least 5 or 6 mini toilets next to rolls of toilet tissue. The first one I saw was OK and got a 4. It followed the theme but was "off" for some reason. It just didn't appeal to me. The next one I saw got a 3. Same deal, OK pic but no WOW. Then there was one that I gave an 8. The picture just jumped out at me. I may have given it more but the idea wasn't very original. Plus, I had already found my favorites and never I try not to give more than 3 or 4 tens per challenge.

3 or 4 tens per challenge!

I had trouble giving away a 9 in this challenge, but I did give one.

08/04/2004 03:26:35 PM · #23
A lot of the average scores are miniature. Everybody gets a 10!
08/04/2004 03:33:23 PM · #24
dwolff, please edit your post to remove the specific photo reference. Not polite to discuss during the challenge.
08/04/2004 04:12:07 PM · #25
What specific reference? There are several mini potties with tp! I was just trying to explain my voting procedure.
