LOL! I've played all the holes and there are still people who have not yet scored an entry at all ahead of me... too funny!! (OK, I'm not laughing, really, but I am trying to find the humor in it...)

But you are also beating others that have entered all the challenges as well :)

I am thinking that the next time this runs I will have to work out a stiffer penalty for missed entries beyond mulligans. As it is now, depending on your original handicap, the penalty is different.

DQ anybody who doesn't complete 7 holes, and require that holes not played be dropped. Don't let anyone opt to keep a hole-not-played (even par result) while dropping an over-par hole. That should take care of it.

I don't take any pride in that part. I'm kind of getting some sort of perverse satisfaction out of trying to do well and still failing. Miserably! It's fun! :-)

I was thinking about that. We can cut anyone that has exhausted their mulligans and still have an unplayed hole or two. Perhaps the cut can be made once 4 holes are missed.

For missed holes that are not mulliganed at this point, I am giving the percentage at zero. But because of initial handicaps, some people are getting 5 points added to their scores, while others are getting 10+ added. I think I will just make the penalty +15 for missed holes that are not mulliganed.

Of course, this will all be for the next time we run the Golf Tourney.

lame! just do it now or cut them, not like they knows what's going on anyways

Cut them now. You said in the rules that you allowed two missed challenges. If they've missed three, then they're out -- they didn't meet the requirements. no bad feelings, because it was there in print.

Bear's right, the mulligans should be dropped first, before anything else. Then they can drop their lowest score. It's not fair if I look and say "my entry really sucks, I'm better off if I don't enter it and mulligan, I can save points!"

... But it is possible for someone to miss three weeks (two as mulligans) and still do well enough to move up in the standings. Kicking them out might be jumping the gun - sent from my iPhone

I wouldnt feel right changing the rules after we have started. Being that this is the first time we have run this, I am learning a lot, and know that I would change the next time around. Besides, it only take a few minutes extra to track their stats.

Keep in mind that if a photog misses three challenges, the first two are mulligans, and the last one is given a percentile of 0, as if they got the brown.

Here is a helpful comment I received from xxxxx on my current photo "crap". My last photo was "crappy" and probably would have deserved this comment. However, I worked really hard on the entry for artifical light, now I'm feeling kind of crappy.

vexillologist is a 15 year old boy that has just registered and has no challenge submission to his name... I wouldn't put too much weight on his comments just yet.

I shouldn't have posted the comment, I was working late last night and was exhausted... I should have looked the name up first, then just gone home and had a good night's sleep!

Ok, I had to create a spreadsheet to drop the two lowest scores (ignore this post, Melethia), I was curious where everyone really stood, and I love an Excel challenge, so I had to figure out what to do with it.

However, I have no idea how to post the spreadsheet, so here's the stripped down version. Anyone know how to post the spreadsheet?

The only problem with this is that for those that have mulligans, the mulligans would be treated as zero percentile, and hence be in their lowest two.

Some real changes will come after the last hole when I can remove the lowest two photos for people who do not have any mulligans at all. Also, in your list, people who have entered 0 challenges are not getting any penalty for it.

I wasn't sure what you had decided on this. Are they out if they miss more than 2 holes? So the mulligans are dropped first? Good choice! I can fix that in the spreadsheet without a problem. I'm just playing around. I haven't met an excel problem that I haven't wanted to tackl :P

Its not that the mulligans are dropped first, its that the lowest scores after 9 holes will be dropped as mulligans. Every non entry is given a percentile of 0 (the lowest possible). So, if anyone misses a hole, they get a zero. Because you cant get any lower, ive been recording everyones first and second missed holes as mulligans. The third, and subsequent, missed holes are left as zeros, as those golfers have exhausted their mulligans.

After the 8th and 9th holes, anyone who has not missed any rounds will have their lowest two rounds dropped as mulligans. So, for example, in your case, if your last round stands to be your worst placing, I will replace it with a mulligan, and negate that round.

Maybe to proper account the mulligans should assign a value of 20 (or greater), since that's the theorical max number possible overpar for anyone. Otherwise, the mulligans are benefitting over those who took the risk of entering a challenge and going overpar. Just a thought...
10/18/2009 12:58:35 AM · #500
Let's make it simple: If my handicap is 50 and I'm forced to count a hole I did not play, I get 10 over par for that hole. If your handicap is 60 and your forced to count a hole you did not play, you get 12 over par for that hole. The way it's set up now, anyway. And that's not fair.

The simple solution is to drop from the tournament (DQ) anyone who does not complete 7 of the 9 holes.
