I lost .17 points since friday.... not a good weekend so far but at least I have lots of comments (28) and 3 favs :)

Disappointing scoring during the weekend. I lost 0.07 in the last couple of days. Still 24 comments and 1 fav, and a pb so not complaining too much.

Could it be that the voters who are voting low are watching this thread and feeding off our whining? The voting is always going to be subjective and complaining about low scores is never going to change that.

Possibly, but I don't buy it. With it being almost universal so far, the only thing I can wrap my head around is a concentrated effort to plummet scores.

Same as with others my score was going down Saturday - lost about .10 points.

I can't believe so many voters are slashing their votes and the new voters haven't handed me higher than a 3. I was hoping to break 5.50 average and I've been shunted down to 5.28. I'm really disappointed with these people, allow me to be bitter for a moment and say I hope the same thing is happening to their scores *bristles*

I'm down .1349 in about 24 hrs. Still a pb, but the excitement is wearing off.

I don't know why you guys are whining but I have seen an identical trend in almost every challenge I have entered, Saturday into sunday(or whatever days) the scores drop off a bit, they always seem higher earlier in the week, this is nothing new.

Yup, there goes the 7... :(

Actually, it would be interesting to see a graph of average scores through the week. I'd bet that the weekly patterns are fairly random for each challenge. The human brain is amazing at seeing patterns and correlation where there isn't actually any, but then again, it's impossible to know without comparing some running averages from week to week.

I dropped .3 on day 1 and slowly dropped another .1 since (which I can't honestly associate with any 'typical' pattern)...

I'm may just be a little sensitive. Last challenge I had a PB going and it started collapsing after about 40-50 votes, maybe a little before. This time I had a PB going again. It did not start collapsing until well after 100 votes. I've been around here awhile and normally after 100 votes things settle down. But then again I might just be a little touchy after two weeks in a row of mild dissapointment. But hey, it's not over till it's over.

Good heavens...mine is dropping out of sight! I'll soon need a magnifying glass to see mine! So, all of you out there with the 6's and the 7's......BE HAPPY! :) If there are people out there, dropping scores, they are likely doing it across the board on everyone's shots...so, the ratio should be the same. I actually UPPED a lot of people's scores several days ago in my final adjustment! :) Others will likely do the same. And, I agree with jhomrighaus in saying that this happens EVERY challenge! This being a decent size of entries, people will vote initially, then when they have the time, will go back and revamp any scoring that needs to be done.

Edited to add: According to the scores in this thread, I will likely ribbon....The Brown! ;)

One could hope that after 200 votes their scores would show some stability. What probably makes people a bit uneasy is the drops are so large. Even mine, which was small compared to others (about 0.08) is more than a single vote of 1 can muster. (The math says a 1 vote drops my score around 0.03 right now.) So what gives? Is it coordinated? Is it just a lot of lower votes with no coordination? But statistically why would this be expected to happen and why always at the end?

It's just odd. It didn't always happen. I remember when I would expect my vote to bump at the end. Hopefully the scrubber gets whatever is being cast unfairly and the best pics win.

It goes down more than that if the score is bumped down from 8 to 1 than simply a 1 vote being added.

Hey Doc, get on IM, trying to reach you

You're still in line for a new PB though - so that should be pretty exciting !

Still hanging onto my 6, but barely:

Still wandering back and leaving a few comments here and there but I know I won't get to anywhere near 100% since I have places to go today.

You have rated 158 of 159 images (99%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 63 images (40%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.5127.

Hmm. Any chance I can swap my score given with my score received?

That's not exactly a comforting thought.

If that's going to be some kind of new trend for every challenge, I think I'd -- not so slowly -- stop entering challenges. I simply couldn't take that kind of minor disappointment challenge in and challenge out.

Still, out of the 10 challenges I've now completed (10th will end tonight), this is the first one that I've seen a drop in the last two days like this. Every other one I've crept up a bit. Every one.

:-) One more fav than Alain, and probably at least a point and a half below his score. Oddly, I'm still very pleased with this.

Wow, 4 favorites. I can't wait to see which one is yours.

With 4 faves I would think you would be pleased with it! Have I commented on yours Deb? I'll have to get up early tomorrow to look at the results before heading up to Glasgow for three days.

Going to send my critter round to all the trolls and have it bite them - then they have to go for a long very painful series of rabies shots!

My wild animal has been hunted and maimed and that's with hardly any votes coming in. A lot of bumping down I'm guessing.

Don't do that - you and your critter should be getting ready to have a party for your (soon to be) new PB !!

I see the same thing. I COULD have gone to the zoo and gotten some majestic shots but, the challenge stated, "in their natural habitats".

Not sure though that it will be penalized. It seems that if it's a technically wonderful shot, the actual criteria may not be as scrutinized as long as it's "wildlife". That puts those of us who stuck to challenge criteria at a definite disadvantage...unless, of course, we live in Africa or, some exotic area where these types of wildlife creatures run freely! ;)

The challenge descriptions are rarely ever followed by the voters. Some people exploit that and some choose not to. Some take the challenges more seriously while others not so much. Much like in life it's all about how much you're willing to sacrifice to get ahead and how much value you place on the journey itself. There are expressways to everything in life but not everyone chooses to get on or stay on for long.
