I was browsing the internet last night with no intention of buying a thing. I came across the Lenovo website - you know, the folks that build the really tough notebooks that can get dropped, sand blasted, hit a wall at 35 mph, etc and have the info on your notebook still unharmed. Well, thy have some really cool stuff and ideas. Before I knew it I found myself buying this:

77583FU Lenovo IdeaPad Y510

Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5750 ( 1.83GHz 667MHz 2MB )
Operating system: Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
Display type: 15.4 WXGA TFT with integrated camera AntiGlare 1280x800
System graphics: NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GTS 256MB
Total memory: 4 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz
Hard drive: 320GB 5400
Optical device: DVD Recordable (Dual Layer) 24X Max
Bluetooth: Bluetooth Version 2.0 + EDR
Communication adapter: Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
Pointing device: Industry Standard Touchpad
Weight: 6.59 lbs
Battery: 6 Cell Lithium-Ion
Warranty: One year parts and labor (system battery: one year)

The 4GB SDRAM and the 360gb Hard Drive are going to be awesome. As will the sound system as these babies come with Dolby® Home Theater™ - 4 speakers and a sub woofer! Instead of using a password to log onto the computer, I just have to sit in front of it as it uses face recognition software and the integrated camera. It should be in my hands by the end of the week. :D

anyone else on this site have a Lenovo notebook?

No, but I wish I did. I'm very much enjoying their tv ad, too.

And the point of this advertorial is....?

So what, they're built to be really durable or something? I'm really not familiar with this brand at all.

processor looks to be a bit outdated, about 2 years old with the slower bus speeds and slower ram speeds as well. Resolution looks to be ok, but I prefer a bit higher. Some good features in the list like bluetooth and the large hard drive is very nice to have.

If you don't have one already get some sort of backup system because even though the computer might be good for not losing data, 100% of all hard drives crash eventually.

I have the Thinkpad bought before IBM sold this division to Lenovo. I like their build qulity. I have also owned to Dell laptops while I had the Thinkpad and dell IMO doesn't compare to Thinkpad design. Lenovo I believe has maintained the same designs. I have the 'T' series.

Do you really need that big hard drive ? i would keep my laptop with a smaller faster hard drive and keep backups.. i like a laptop which is light to carry.

I have a couple external hard drives - one is full to capacity. The laptop hard drive is also pretty full right now, but it is only an 80gb hd. I do plan on keeping a bootable back up regardless of how tough this thing is.

I'm rolling a T60P and it's the best laptop I've used, albeit I've only used two! But nonetheless I love it! :)

Good choice! :)

My wife's company said they would pay up to $2,000 if she wanted to buy herself a laptop. So we got a very nice Lenovo for only $100. Her company paid the rest.

They are nice machines, but ours came with Vista, configured with a ton of background processes that eat CPU cycles. After I turned off some of the background nonsense, it started responding much faster.

Hey there isn't anything 'sub' about a pug. Mine can woof with the best of them.

This one will also come with VISTA. I would like to know what background processes can be shut off for better performance.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T61P, going on for 2 years old now.
It's stunning, with the best monitor I've used on a laptop, and overall very good build quality. Much better than the Dell laptops I'd used before.

Nice laptop! That face recognition looks neat. I found a coupon code USPIDEAPAD15 to save 15%, expires tomorrow though. I see your model listed in the description. Might be a longshot, but see if they can apply it to your order.

Thanks. I don't know if it is too late or not, but I emailed them requesting the discount and provided the code.

I have the T60p version. Probably one of the best laptops I have had in years. My classmate dropped the laptop from about 8 feet off the ground on hard surface and everything was fine. Nothing was broken except that the battery connector broke which is not a big deal.

Tomorrow is the big day. I've been clicking away at the UPS tracking button all morning. lol It shipped out of NC yesterday, and just left KY around noon.
