the shots are good, left you a couple of comments, the black bar though over her nose is killing me and really takes away from gorgeous eyes.

she has her mouth open in nearly every shot, she needs to soften her mouth.

you have done an amazing job for your first ever model shoot

but you also have to remember tht you have to direct them and what make up they apply etc

Thanks for that... I wasn't sure what to expect with this shoot... she's actually a makeup artist that wants to become a model, so I left her to decided on the makeup... If I do shoot again I will remember that as well as her mouth.. I was so caught up with getting shoots and the rest of her body that I totally forgot about her mouth... Ii also has someone else comment that her facial expressions could have been better. Guess I chalk that up to our combined inexperiance.

Thanks for the comments.... any more out there people?

You know, usually when I see these threads, I open them and the photos just strike me as very non-professional. Sometimes even downright bad. So, I comment on how they can look better, etc...

However, I am quite glad I took the time to look through these! I LOOOOOVE the one of her behind the bars with the cat eyes. LOVELY!!!

She does seem to be sneering in a lot of them. I agree with Juliet on that one, she needs to soften her mouth. :)

Otherwise, WONDERFUL work and it was a pleasure looking through them :)

Looking forward to seeing more!!

I am nto sure if it is a sneering mouth, more of an attempt at a ZooLander pout.

I aso think that the black bridge is making her look like she is sneering too/

I hae to say though, I am impressed, these are the best pictures that you have in your port

the outdoor location was a local comunity center ina poorer neigborhood, and the cateye one was towards the end.. when i saw the picture on my computer afterwards I just new she needed cat eyes.. I'm hopeing she likes it too.

technically, they are good shots, so i'm going to give a crit for your model.

i preface this by saying this is not a personal attack - i speak as someone who was a model for years, and has experience with this. she is a very pretty girl, with fabulous bone structure and a superb body. as said by everyone else, her mouth is the problem. it seems that she has quite large lips and the underlying muscles thereof. What she needs to do is spend a lot of time looking in a mirror, with a friend, making faces. there will be some positions and angles from which to shoot that will minimise her lips, and some that will exaggerate them:

Minimise: [thumb]684836[/thumb] [thumb]684837[/thumb] [thumb]684838[/thumb]

Exaggerate: [thumb]684844[/thumb] [thumb]684850[/thumb] [thumb]684846[/thumb]

i hope this is helpful.

I agree with you totally Xiant, if you look at the shots the shots are great, most of the constructive critisism comes down to her. As you said she is just starting to do this.

I think the main problem is she has a strong jawbone too, and her mouth is open in all of the shots. She needs to do what X said and look in the mirror and pull funny faces and pose. Most people when they look in the mirror, do actually do that exact same pose.

As a MUA, show her the one that I mentioned the beard on, it is just teh make up or the fake tan that is doing it, she needs to blend more. She is a powerful looking woman and strong poses go for her well. Ask her to practise with her eyes too, she needs to be able to convey more emiotion in them, at the moment, you have all these shots that really good, but are basically the same thing over and over again. SO soft eyes, hard eyes (which she has to a T), sly eyes, come hither eyes, same goes for the mouth, exactly teh same,

I am so glad that X brought up the point about the model, it is exaclty what i wanted to say, but i do remember a HUGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE hupla when someone pointed out faults in a model and the photographer was very pissed off.

So if I have pissed you off, let me know ASAP and I will remove my post forthwith

So please dont take this personally, or her to take this personally

that's it juliet - to be a model is to be an actress in stills. more emotion and variation. she'll be great with a little practice.

I commented on the one with the bars before reading the rest of the comments here. I like the Angelina Jolie lips. And after readng JulietNN's comment I hope I wasn't too hard on the model with my teeth comment. I'll change the wording if you want.

Yo know I have a much thicker skin than that :) and I know that any comments you make JulietNN are not meant as an attack on either of us! I really do appreciate the comments of everyone here on DPC and especially yours because you take the time to look, be honest, and very helpful in what you write... so THANKS!!!!

Not to harsh... and point taken... frankly I'm sure if she really wants to make a go of this that there will be people much harsher and less kind than anyone here can be (not that any of you have been too harsh)

Thanks, and by the way, for being your first model shoot these are great shots! I did my first model shoot a month ago and your pictures put mine to shame. I'm sure you'll do great in your upcoming shoots.

Thanks... this week coming up is going to be a swimsuite shoot, which I'm excited for, but I want to make sure I do my best there too. which apearantly means watching the mouth too :)

My favorite is the cowboy hat one...minus the mouth/expression...

As far as critiques:

I am not seeing a very prominent catch light in some of these stills. Catch lights really add some life to portraits. A simple fill flash can add one if you want something quick...try it out...the worst that can happen is you delete them afterward.

How many lights do you have? I think a rim light and maybe a hair light would add some punch. If you don't have another light...try using the sun to act as either or both...

Everybody else seemed to nail all the other critiques. Great work. Keep it up.

Hi,

I left you a comment on the shot, but I suppose I should have replied here. Just curious, did you work on the model's eye color. I have never seen eye color like this:

It was a little tricky using the clone tool over her nose area because it varies so much if you were to really look closely at the two you would find that it looks like I've extended her nose where buy a bit I took out the makup because I basically cloned a lower area of the nose.... all in all though I'm pleased... I may do a few more for here cd so that she can see the difference.
