I'm trying to copy my pictures to a DVD-R and my laptop says there is no space on the disk, but they're all brand new and have 4.7gigs available. Am I doing something wrong? When I put in CD-RW's, it reads them just fine. I've burnt DVD's on here before...does the -R have anything to do with it?
Thanks

Just as a start, I'd clean the drive and reboot the computer.

Recordable DVDs come in both -R and +R formats -- either your drive or your software may be finicky about which your use.

If your drive doesn't support the -R they will usually act like a bad DVD when you try to write to them.

you should use +R's when doing data only, compatible with more dvd drives than the -R's. But if your actualy making a movie for a dvd player then use -R's which are more compatable with alot more dvd players

I don' know what software you are using but if your using NERO burner software make sure you change the option to DVD at the top of the quick start window. You should find it in the middle.

Are you using Mac? If you are, try this:
1 insert the disc to be burned
2 hilight the images in iPhoto or where you want to copy them from
3 copy the images to the disc in "Finder" (drag and drop, or cut and paste)
4 with "Finder" open usin the "File" drop down at the top of the screen, select "Burn Disc"
This will make a disc which can be opened by any computer
If you burn directly from iPhoto using the "burn" icon there, the disc will only work with Mac computers. but it will be a data disc, and you can put a lot more on it.
For more, have a look at iPhoto "Help"

Have to agree with Karin (Beetle) how much space do you have left on mac or PC if you don't have a lot of space you won't be able to burn a disc

Tom, Did you get the problem worked out yet? On a Mac, you have to have at least as much free space in your hard drive as there is on the disc to be burned. I'm not sure if PC works the same way.

if you are a windows guy then you might be trying something like right click on the file(S) and send to the CD/DVD drive (e.g. F:). As for as what I know, windows OS does not know whether the disk in the drive is a CD or DVD and there is no option to select that, it treats everything as a CD and not DVD and it would complain that disk do not have enough space. I would also recommand to use NERO.

Thanks everyone. Tomorrow when the stores open I'll go get NERO and try that out...

You can download a trial version of Nero now. :)
