One of my latest experiments w/ photoshop.

I think this is an insteresting abstract with some nice shape and composition. My main concern is that it appears way under exposed. Can you increase your levels some so as to make it 'pop' more?

I did,, and it caused too much "brightening" of the edges of the original rose. Made it look psychedelic orange! And accentuated the noise in the centre of the flower.

I was going for a more moody, dark feel.

It is underexposed.

Thanks for the comments.

Did you photograph this from a picture or craft work?

When you play with the adjustments some very strange objects appear in the backgound?

I don't go for the dark moody look. It is too depressing.

IMHO

They are a tad bit dark for me, but nice effort.

The red rose is a "real" one I shot here in the studio. I used it as the base for the manipulated ones that are added in.

A lot of folks don't like dark and moody.. but that's a personal choice.
I prefer it myself. Perky doens't work for me!

I thought that it worked better in a square format to put the focus sqarely on the roses. I didn't see a need to have the negative space on the left side. I increased the shadow detail a little bit and overall brightness but it still has the darker look to it. If you don't want me to show this photo I will remove it emmeditately.

Tim,

I appreciate seeing how you would look at it.

This tells me volumes how other people want to/see things.
That completely changes the feel of the image.

The negative space is, I think, integral to the mood of the image.

By it being that much brighter I also see the mood being altered dramatically.

I'd appreciate you not having the altered image posted somewhere public.

Thanks for the feedback and glimpse of how you look at things.

I personnally appreciate the dark mood of the original one. I have no 'suggestions' on it, maybe I would have let it 'breathe' a little bit more at the bottom (same amount that on the right).

Sorry to post the image. I find it easier to "show" my ideas rather than just talk about them but I understand your fealings about this issue. I have removed the photo and the link and I will not be showing examples anymore.

I don't mind at all,, seeing is better for me everytime.

It's just I wasn't comfortable having it on a public database like pbase. that's all.
I really do appreciate your taking the time to show me what you were explaining

I understand and it's OK. I don't know of any other way to show images where it would not be public.

Any of the "traditional" photo processing sites (like Ofoto.com) or MyFamily.com let you store photos there, but only people whom you specifically invite (and are given a password) can access them.

BTW: I like the dark and moody but would also have liked to see how the square crop looked -- I've been doing a lot of squares lately.
