Ditto! I have seen more nudes posted that where more for the girlfriend review than any honest attempt at the science and art of lighthing on the human body.
Probably one of the greatest photographers in this nude stuff is Jack Cutler with his clever lighting techniques.

As to genitalia as an artform.......... well I have taken some pretty hots petal pictures and even a few lurid stamen and pollen pics showing every detail of a buttefly at 12 megapixels........great stuff if your a pollen pornographer LOL
I use an E-10 because its has lots of BIG GLASS and forces one to read the light and capture the light. Your usually to busy being a photographer to be a perv and once again this a photographers web site.....
The human body is the hardest to capture in light.

Truth be known, nudes are probably one of the most difficult and challenging subjects in all of photography.

Photography is all about lighting and that is one reason nudes have a fundamental appeal to human viewers. That is why B&W is often the chosen presentation methodology. Nudes always have and always will be appealing photographic subjects, not unlike flowers.

I entered this "nude" (if you consider half of a left nipple a Nude) in the Low Key Challenge on March 19th. It has received 6,258 views since voting closed.

I don't get that logic. I haven't seen one nude photo on this site of a gorgeous woman that I didn't like to look at. Maybe it is the most difficult to get extremely good at it but I think it's probably one of the easiest subjects to produce acceptable results to the masses.

Umm, have you tried to get a cat to pose exactly the way you wanted? I would say the opposite. Shooting animals gives you less creativity. I can always talk to a human subject and tell them my vision. Like with anything else there is good, bad and the ugly. Anybody can shoot flowers and nudes but neither can be done masterfully by just anybody. Now I haven't shot nudes so maybe my opinion here is flawed but I challenge anybody well just hot females to pose for me and we can find out! :P

I think the amount of difficulty depends on the 'hotness' of the subject. IOW, hotter = easier. :P

Great to study the effects of curves on light and shadows in the composition.

Sorry, I don't. Have not read Playboy or any other 'girly' magazine in a long, long time. Just appreciate good photography.

Think a so called "ugly" model could make a good subject for a nude. Nudes are about lighting as much as anything else. Wish I were as talented as others I see here. I admire them.

If you post a snapshot of Jessica Alba in the nude and an artistic nude photo of Roseanne Barr, which one is going to get the most views and favorites? I'd bet big money on Jessica. :D

I'd bet on the better photographer. LOL!!!! I think anyone, even me, could make a person (I'm thinking woman) with a good body look good, but it takes a great photographer to make Roseanne look good.

I don't care who takes the photos, I'd still bet on Jessica. I'd also give her all my winnings if she would just... well, nevermind.

Actually I would say it is a team effort. Unless the photographer is also the hair dresser, stylist, makeup artist etc...

I think you'll also find that a lot of the views of nude images are people browsing from sites like Google Images. If you have a look at the "who is online" section there's usually a lot more Guests than registered members.

And yes, my most viewed portfolio image is a nude

Yanko, its a matter of subject knowledge and experience in composition.
Very few women or men models for that matter will tolerate the time it takes to establish light metering, arrangements, poses and etc.....without compensation or credibility from being photographed by a pro. Girlfriends and wives may let you know later how they feel about amateur work on the internet. LOL
As well, the model has the right to establish the limits and type of poses they will provide. Serious consideration goes both to the photographer and the model as to who the artist really is and in shooting the sublime images that inspire awe for human art form, "natural" poses are exceedingly harder to obtain than wet beach babes, etc.... Good luck with the models, you may start at onemodelplace.com however and find a chance for some photo ops....
Glamour photographry is a category of its own and probably the HARDEST skill to master. My appreciation is for the challenges that do exist to help me and all the others to think out of the box and attempt to create images that get all the users of DPchallenge to think beyond typical pictures and inspire us to learn new skills and develop hidden talent.

You're right but I was just commenting on the point you made about creativity. I still think shooting people let alone nudes offers more creativity than shooting animals. I have a million ideas for people shots but that's not to say I will do it well. So yes I agree it's harder shooting people and nudes in particular.
