Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II

I have a dilemma. A friend asked me for some help in PS-ing a portrait that she has of her two sons. Apparently she has two very similar shots (same pose, taken seconds apart). She wants to cut and paste the head from one shot into the other because her older son's eyes are goofy in one and the youngest has a silly look on his face in the other.

I have a cursory knowledge of PS, but I'm no pro. I was wondering if someone would give me the Cliff's Notes step-by-step on how to do this. I realize that asking this may be similar to asking you to give me a brief on how to build a rocket ship. If so, please disregard. If there's an easy way, I could use some advice!

What version of PS are you using?

Can you post the two examples?

Link the shots so we know what is necessary to post-process.

Don't worry! "WE" can help! There's nothing "cheap" about Elements 2.0--it can do a lot more than most people expect it can. When you get the pics, put them up. Someone here can walk you through one of the several techniques to fix the "problem"--I personally like layers and erasure depending on how close the images are....

She emailed me the photos this morning.

Photo 1

Photo 2.

I'd like to move the head of the oldest son (in the middle) from photo 2 to photo 1. I'm also aware that I need to get rid of a dust mark on photo 1 as well. If anyone can help, I'd be very grateful!

K, here's a quick stab. I didn't copy the head, only the face from one to the other.

My try. Used Clone Stamp tool and copy-pasted kids face only.

edit: Couldn't resist doing some other improvements as well. :o)

- also removed red eye from the girl (more red ees remaining).

Would be easier to work with higher resolution though,

My method is to open a new photoshop document and drag bothe pictures into it. This creates separate layers. Then I aligned the boy's head as best as possible at the neck and hairline. Lower the opacity on photo #1 so you can see through it to #2 (below on the layer pallette). Pull out the eraser and set opacity to something like 90% and erase the silly face to reveal the one below. (I also fixed red eye on the girl only to realize they all seem to need a little correction.)

EDIT:
Here's what my work surface looked like:

You can see how one layer is offset before I erased.

(What'd I tell you? Did we help, or what!? Now you have 1/2 dozen ways to fix your image!)

Open both images in PS.
Use the lasso tool and capture his head in photo 2
Switch to photo1, ceate a new layer via copy
Use eraser tool to erase over the head you want removed, sharp edged brush, 100% opacity, invert inmage to check and see if it's all gone, invert back.
Use lasoo tool again and draw around his head
Select paste into and head from #2 will now be pasted into the lasso'd section
Use move tool to place close.
Use eraser around edges carefully to erase away around edges to remove what shouldn't be there
Use move tool again and position better.
Use eraser again around edges to finalize.
Flatten layer & save.
Something like that anyway...

After that, I adjusted levels a bit, tone, smoothed some skin, removed red-eye by zooming way in and using small sponge tool to desaturate the red, usually slect burn tool and darken, though here it didn't seem to need it.

I know it's just a Virgo thing for me... but you may want to straighten on the vertical on the left side of the picture (at least a little bit)...
