There's still hope! I'm sure half the voters still haven't voted...Right? For a moment this morning, only briefly, I saw my score go up by almost 0.2--seriously! So you may still achieve your goal.

This being my first challenge entry and all, if this holds up I'm going to be very satisfied. I don't know though, it was at 7 blank sometime yesterday and has been dropping steadily since.

Hey, just checked the scores on the blue-ribboned photos of one of my fav photographers, Heida. And just to let you know, even SHE has received 1s and 2s. So maybe, just maybe, the low-scorers were thinking that my photo really belongs to her. Wow, this really means that you and I are as good as Heida. SWEET! *This kind of thinking is what gets me to sleep at night* :)

LOL. Yep, I just keep telling myself I am really good! Actually I've had a few amatuer friends who sell and do photography on the side tell me I'm onto something lately so maybe there is hope for me lol.

I'm sure it's not that bad.

I wrote over 20 comments. Maybe the comment is mine...

I got one comment from hundreds of views, and my comment was kinda directed at my title.

I scored really really low, and based on this one comment I have to ask...Are all the challenges meant to be so extremely literal?

He he he... I'm not saying my photo is the best, especially not after I've seen some of your submissions!! I'm just curious.

I would post the title prior to the challenge ending if I were you. just a thought.

But what do you think?

There are times when people vote an image and the title plays an important part of it. So I have to say that there is also some weight in it. I personally don't really downgrade an image purely based on an "inappropriate" title but there are that do. it's just the way it goes :)

I think for your image, the scoring was based more on the technical aspects of the image. I can discuss more after the challenge is over.

Since the local etiquette is to keep entries anynmous until voting has ended, it's kind of hard for us to tell right now. Why not repost your question after voting has ended, when we can all see the entry, the comment, who made the comment, and his or her other comments? We'll probably be able to give you a meaningful answer then; anything we come up with now will just be speculation.

I guess that's good that not too many people saw the post :)

Ah cool, thanks guys.

Sorry, didn't know about the "local ettiquette", thats why I made the blunder!

Sorry!

As I said, I'm not saying my photo is brilliant! I just thought the comment I did receive (which was anonymous)related directly back to an expected literal meaning.

But thanks Rikki, I see what you mean. It's the same as critting a piece of writing as well - all subjective in the end!

:)

Well I had hope last night as my score was slowly rising throughout the day. I wake up this morning and it has dropped lol.

Ah well, this is fun and that's all I'm really doing it for. And I love looking at the other photos.

I took a really awsome picture of my daughter yesterday. At least I think it was awsome. WOuld have been perfect for this challenge. Then again I thought what I entered was perfect LOL.

Still only one comment. SToOO7- maybe it was you who commented, whoever it was, was rather blunt lol. I was actually kind of taken aback by it. The first words out of my mouth were "WELL then!" ANd then I had a good cry. JK lol.

mines started off well, but is falling.

im losing interest/faith in the way challenges are voted on here, with half the entries not even being `on topic`
10/28/2005 12:23:52 PM · #91
Don't lose faith boys and girls. I think the voting system's working really well. Although I do disagree with that person who voted a 9 on my photo. That totally dropped my average to 9.98. Darn it! I was sooo hoping for a perfect 10. *sigh*

LOL I'm going to go have a good cry now. I just got back from picking my daughter up from preschool and I have REALLY dropped now.

Yes I was looking through the entries and there's quite a few don't say "delicate" to me, but my idea of delicate may be different then someone elses.

I worked so hard on this one- I'm talking hours. And I really think the camera you use should be posted with the picture so people know what you have to work with.

Funny how the "what" challenge I didn't even put any effort into was already scoring higher than this one lol.
10/28/2005 01:47:28 PM · #93
You have to love the voters. They either like it or not. I keep getting 3's and 7's.
10/28/2005 05:35:55 PM · #94
that what challenge was a shambles, lets just post a random portrait picture.

a horse baring its teeth does not say `what` to me, niether does a portrait of a dog sticking its nose at the camera.

what is `what?` as in - what is it - it wasnt said as a caption, ie: use the phrase `what?` to create your photograph - it was `WHAT` as in WHAT THE **** IS IT!? lol

waste of time

Well.. i know for darn sure my delicate shoot is a better photo than a 5, but you have to think unless you can shot cliche you arent going to get a high score.

Your avg dpc voter likes:
Babies
Cute animals
Stuff with smoke machines
Mystical dark, moody shots.. Our friends from Iceland have these perfected.
Macros of colorful insects
Women wearing veils with striking eyes.

For me. If I get a couple comments sayin it is a great shot, as I know it is, then I dont care what the final outcome is.

ps.. not knocking the shot which fit in the above categories, just pointing out a pattern in voting.

Well I just keep dropping lol.

I'm doing this for fun and joined to learn more about digital photography and I am doing just that.

I will admit that I am quite disappointed in the fact that nobody is even commenting on my photo. I've had one comment that was rather blunt as I stated before. I'm new here, but I still took the time to comment on the photos I voted on. I would think that would be the polite thing to do, especially when giving a low score. I realize not everyone has time to comment on every photo- heck I don't have that kind of time and I'm a stay at home mom lol, but to score something so low but not comment on it, that is just sad.

Okay I'll get off my soapbox and go back to scratching my head. Wondering what to do next since I have no idea as to what I am trully doing wrong lol.

i can tell you the reason i do not comment on a lot of photos is cause i am still learning and i don't want someone to look me up and say hey she is an idiot why is she commenting on my photo.and i don't always have time i am still on dialup cause i live in the country.
