I think a lot of people on DPC could join the NHST (National Hair Splitting Team).

But which 'National'? As an international site, you'd have problems setting just one National. You need to be a little more careful, you know.

Now, when you say 'careful'...in what way?

They should each join their own local national team, then we'd have enough entrants for a dpc world cup! ;o)

And what if you are the only person from a certain nation?

Better start recruiting.

You can probably find some American decendants to pad your team.

Worked for Greece.

If the need arises, I think I might have to do just that.

Find some buddies and train!

Hey, if Jamaica could field a bobsled team...

Very true, Terry. I sure should be able to find a teammate.

There is so much arguing and bickering, not to mention just SILLY interpretation of the "theme" issues here that there has to be a solution. Mine is this:

1. either make the challenges more ambiguous(call teh challenge team sports or sports- no further explanation)

2. allow a one sentence explanation of your shot to be posted under title,

or

3. stop bitching about this all the time, and certainly don't make a motion to disqualify for not meeting the challenge. My idea of what meets the challenge may be different than yours- and since as photographer's we are ARTISTS and not tradesmen or scientists- OPEN your collective minds and lets not be Jackasses.

I did not see this thread and wished I had been able to respond to it earlier. Being one of the individuals whose picture is in question ("1"), I would like to say that inspite of my attempts to try to get the picture DQ'd when I first saw it posted, I feel that my picture did not violate any of the rules as it is and should not have been DQ'd. Frankly, I would have really liked it if it was because I would have used the picture in the Master's Challenge. I think the rules are fair and quite understandable. It was my mistake and I deserve the consequences. Likewise, I do not feel the other picture should be DQ'd for the same reason.

Ah ha! So you think too it didnt meet the challenge?
I've received comments like:
- isnt a team sport (can play it 2 against 2)
- with a ball in the picture it might have been good (well i can see a ball)
- with some parts moving it might have been better (Umm, the striker bar?)

So which one of these do you think is a valid reason for DQ?

I do admit it was not a good shot. My camera has a limited aperture range and couldnt take a really long exposure with the available lighting.

No problem. Rather I'm glad you brought it up.

I never said that. I merely posted it as an example of an entry that falls into a grey area, and therefore would be problematic if we were to start disqualifying entries for not meeting the challenge.

If you dq'd these, then you'd have to DQ several others as well.

What I found interesting - and disappointing - is that these two pictures got so many more comments than the entries that obviously met the challenge criteria.

Since most Pro-ball Players say they won the big game because of "God's hand"...then maybe it parallels/compares to foosball...I'm sure if you asked the foosball men...they would say "we couldn't have done it on our own"

(I just want to confuse and thicken this topic more)

Everyone is so focused on there opinion that a solution is not even looked for cause they think there is nothing to be looked for.

I've tried to drag out as many points as possible and started a new thread when the other was hijaked with the help of some members of the SC. Not so funny.
But all the or most of the points I have put forward have been twisted and turned insead of being looked at with an open mind like you want for the pictures.

Plz. read on and see.

finally a private message that I sent to the one person that has stopped to think about this:

The message I sent to the GeneralE:
I see your point on the censorshipping the entris in the SC but with the increasing number of particapansts in each challenge it takes up more and more time to vote. I sometimes skip voting in a challnge cause I don't have the time for it thus when I do vote I hate to see entries like that. There are many ways to simplyfy the way to know if a picture is on topic or not.

A good way is to let the voters handle it to start with....
Add a DQ checkbox to the voteing page.
That way I could vote as it was on topoic but click the DQ box if I would find the entry not fitting.
Then if more than 30% of the voters check the DQ box then the site counsil would check that picture (after some number of votes - 50 or so)and deside if it shluld be DQ.
Probably better to call it off topic box so it will not be confused with DQ for illegal edits.
Would this be a better way?
The SC always recives alot of not on topic DQ so this would decrease there work probably.

(plz PM if you answer or have any comments, thread is in my ingnor list)

The Swan Princess? Just to think of one. ;)

I was about to reply to this with some intelligent comments, then realised it would be pointless. I don't want to pm people on topics like this, as they affect everybody.

But you did think the entry was in the grey area.. and I'm curious why? Either you thought it wasnt meeting the challenge but others thought it was.. or maybe you received a DQ request on it, but rejected it?

The argument could be made that Foosball is a game, not a sport.

I'm in favor of broad interpretations of the challenge. I did not vote on this challenge, but if I had I would have scored your photograph about a 7. I liked it.

Siggi, I think you should get on your ISP's case to sell unlimited bandwidth instead of per Mb. It'd solve a lot more problems than what you're attempting to do with this site.
