Well for my dad we got him a new telescope and a few DVD's. My friend on the otherhand did alot more for his dad (i helped though lol) I posted a thread about this before but we just finished it and revealed it about an hour ago. We "stole" his dads 69 skylark and with the help of my other friends dad (auto mechanic/autobody guy) We restored it to mint condition ($10,000 job normally, free for us :) ), he was in tears this morning.

Heres a before and after shot.
Shots on the left are Before and on the right are After.
The difference is way more noticeable in person

More after shots

I actually don't care for it that much. The play is so much differnt from 1942 and Battlefield 2 that it's not as intuitive.

Agree, BF2 nailed it in terms of gameplay.. I kinda like the `realworld` setting as opposed to the futuristic stuff.

I always just took it apart. To do so, turn one end 45degrees so that the corner is sticking out, and push out on it until it pops. Then just slide the rest of them out. Once out, just start putting them back again.

There is a difference between what I like to RECEIVE and what I like to HAVE.

That's my feeling too. I remember when I was little, giving tacky things I'd made and thought were beautiful. When I hit my teens I was mortified that my parents still had that "junk". Now that I'm a parent those are the things I still treasure the most, even if MY kids are mortified that I have kept them :)
(Then again, I'm female, so more sentimental than most men ;) )
One of my most treasured possessions is the box my son made in eighth grade shop. He'd never been interested in building or in anything that wasn't quick and easy.
When I opened it at Christmas I cried. It's red cedar, and rather than varathaning it as most did, and losing the exquisite scent, he spent hours sanding to a satin finish. When I'm feeling sad I simply have to stroke it and inhale its scent and I invariably feel better :)

For me, it IS the thought that counts, but as long as everyone's happy, anything can work :)

Happy Father's Day, all dads, surrogate dads, and dads-to-be!

I got to sleep in this morning! Then spent some time at the swimming pool with my son. Get to go on a motocycle ride with my son over to my parents now, and work on their house. Special times with family are always good!

As far as "gifts", I'm receiving my lighting equipment for my new studio, along with a new tripod and ball head within the next few days! I got those myself though, so I guess they don't really count for father's day.

I've only had time to play it for about 8 minutes so far (been too busy), but it's alright. I also got a copy for my nephews 8th grade graduation present, and he loves it.

I'm getting blueberry muffins and hot coffee this AM. I think my oldest son is going to mow the grass for me, and I will probably watch a little US Open, and I will have some time to clean my camera gear to get ready for our vacation as well...Sounds pretty good to me.

Happy Father's Day to all of you Dads.

mark_u_U...exactly what kind of gift would show someone you appreciate them? I think giving something you know the person wants and will appreciate is a great way of showing that you appreciate them.

That is true for gifts from adult to adult. From my kids, I would like a gift they made themselves or (when they grow a little older) something that they picked specialy for me and is within their spending range. I agree, that's how it should be. But look at some of the presents mentioned in this topic. Are those the kind of presents a kid gives to his dad? To some, fathers day seems to be more about presents than about appreciation for being such a good dad.

well for the past 2 years I haven't even gotten a "Happy Father's Day" from the kids. I expect much of the same this year. Ah well, it is what it is.

My kids' dad is getting one of those corny concrete stepping stones. Difference? This one is shaped like the Chevy bowtie. That sucker is heavy (about 3 feet wide) and is in my trunk to give to him tomorrow.

I wish all of the Daddy's and Grandpa's on this site a happy father's day.

...from a web search:
"FATHERS' DAY HISTORY"

"Sonora Dodd, of Washington, first had the idea of a "father's day." She thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909.

Sonora wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart. Smart, who was a Civil War veteran, was widowed when his wife died while giving birth to their sixth child. Mr. Smart was left to raise the newborn and his other five children by himself on a rural farm in eastern Washington state.

After Sonora became an adult she realized the selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent. It was her father that made all the parental sacrifices and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous, selfless, and loving man. Sonora's father was born in June, so she chose to hold the first Father's Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on the 19th of June, 1910.

President Calvin Coolidge, in 1924, supported the idea of a national Father's Day. Then in 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day. President Richard Nixon signed the law which finally made it permanent in 1972."

Seems a bit more deep than just a Hallmark scam, IMHO. I sure wish my kids had their father with them today so they could celebrate and praise what a wonderful dad he has always been to them.
