Whoo-hoo -- a handful of kind votes today, drifting back up into 5.6 land. I doubt I have much hope of crossing back into 6-territory, though.

Not too many comments. Always surprised at the photos I adore that receive mediocre reviews vs. the ones of mine that do better than I expect. This falls into that first category. |

Thank you for your comment, Magnum, even though I am probably not one of your 10's :) I wonder what makes landscapes such overwhelming favorites in "free study" challenges? are they the most universal embodiment of "beauty"? |

I think it's out inborn desire to "get away from it all". When we see a beautiful landscape, it temporarily transports us there.
Actually, I get irritated with landscapes, because some people just have the beauty available to them and others are stuck in dull places. But even going in with a chip on my shoulder, I can't help but be wowed by the incredible beauty of some places.

but for real - my first two entries (like 6 years ago, i have to go back and look) were in the 3's. i haven't broken a 7, but i am now raising a family solely from photography income. :) funny how things change. |

I'm amazed that I have 5 faves (only 2 of them are from people who commented) with a not so high score. Usually my favourites during voting only come with high scores like 6.9 or 7.

I'm getting hammered as well, have dropped 2/10 (6.7ish to 6.5ish) since midnight last night. I'm seeing the exact same sort of drop in User Portrait as well :-(
