Blue Ribbon idea:
A macro of a camera bag creating a water drop with an HDR sunrise over the Icelandic volcano....
How's my spelling? ;)

At least the challenge is not "Grammar" or "Spelling".
This will be one of those challenges where some people get extremely creative and surprising and others will be bland and uninteresting and some will be in between. ...wait, that's every challenge.
In any case, IT WOULD BE NICE IF PEOPLE WOULD STOP WHINING. <--- that's for Clive. :P |

I'm going to amaze all of you Trolls with a camera bag that's giving you the finger while blowing up a recently used condom.
:-P

O, dear. Jac isn't still uncomfortably displaying his artistic insecurity through his favourite bugbear, the demonisation of the 'arty farties' is he? Man! That is SO two months ago. |

What Jac said: "I like the challenge. Simple but it asks to be creative. Let's see you artsy fartsy folks do something interesting instead of complaining about subject matter. ;) ;) ;)" Actually I think he is just having a bit of fun. "vouslez-vous" was in his rather timely topical poster. I wasn't sure how creatively to interpret that part, though. |

Oh yea, i'm sure he is. I was being quite tongue in cheek as well. I'm sure he won't take offence. I'll put a wink in to make sure. ;) |

I guess my problem with this challenge (as with a number of others lately) is that if I am to spend an effort to create a photo, I would like it to have some value for myself or a potential viewer outside the narrow realm of a DPC challenge. With a topic like this I am pretty much sure that anything I will do will have no emotional or artistic value whatsoever. In other circumstances I would just happily pass on a challenge like this, but since I signed up with a DPL team, I kinda feel guilty doing that, so a topic like this irritates me... |

Yes, that sums it up, LevT. The real challenge, however, is not to be irritated... and to let oneself go, indulge in a mere bauble, frou frou, extraphotographic dalliance. Well, I am trying. Oops, this shouldn't be a sweaty thing. |

Kat, can't you read?
It says "Description: Photograph your camera bag in an interesting and creative way."
YOUR camera bag.....not one that belongs to someone else. So if you photograph your husbands camera bag, I'm gonna give you a 1 and put DNMC in the comments.
BTW - what do the camera bags look like so I'll know you're photographing the right one?

You expressed my thoughts perfectly... although "irritate" is maybe too harsh for me. |

I know that product photography is a pretty common way to make a living in photography. This is a product challenge, and the assigned product is one that every photographer owns one, or more of.
Look at Annie Leibowitz's current series for Loius Vuitton bags for a moody "lifestyle" product shot. Or If you want to show you studio chops off to potential clients, just nail the sort of shot that fills the pages of B&H or Adorama; it may not score well but it is a required type of shot to have in your portfolio if you want to shoot that sort of work for pay.
How well you scorein the challenge will be a reflection of how creative you can get, and how well you can guage the mood of this, you target audience, but taking an everyday object and imbuing it with emotional or artistic value is the role that clients pay photographers for. |
