Picture I submitted
Flower Girl (original)
This is the original picture of Chandraya. Have you seen the pictures of the little girls and boys in b/w and sepia tones and then part of the picture painted. I am not sure who the photographers names are, but that is the effect I was trying to get without braking any rules. I chose the light background because it looks more innocent looking. Is there a way I could have done this differently? I would really like to know, if you have the time. What would you do to get the effect?
Thanks Sonja]

The link to the original shows up the same as the link to the one you submitted. To get the effect, I'd lower the saturation and then adjust the color to bring out the color you want to stand out. I have a real simple editor though and can't it to look right, but I know that with some editors, you can kill all the colors but the one you want to stand out. I get dim color, and I wish I could get bright color. I really liked that shot, by the way.

lol...nevermind, you fixed the link.

I actually liked the original shot better... I thought the one you submitted seemed a little too faded, even though I know it was intentional. |

This was one of the few 10s I gave last week. I like the one you submitted better because the muted colors gave it a dreamlike feel. Wonderful shot!

Thanks all,
There is one more question. How do you make a photo look b/w, but yet still have a one bright color stand out, like red? Does anyone know? I think they need a tuturial on that.

You reduce saturation on all hues to 0 except the hue that you want to remain. That's the 16 word answwr; I'm sure there will be better!

I tried to take out all color besides the color I wanted and the picture turned red. Now what?

For this to work you need a shot that has only one object that is red, with everything else as far away from red as possible. If you have a lot of purple, it will turn red when you take out the blue, so you need true blues, greens ect...
For example, in Roadside Remberance the tail light of the passing car stayed red...
Do you have a link to the shot you want to do this with?

Me too. the colours look much nicer in the original. She looks too yellow/jaundiced in the modified version. |

Thanks all for the nice comments. I will have to remember that. I was going to print them out and send to family, but now I am not sure what to send. Thanks a lot! lol
