Am I the only one puzzled about how I'm going to create a poster when the rules state:
You MAY NOT: "add text or any legible characters to your entry or its border during editing. This includes copyright statements."
Is this just an oversight? Or are these really supposed to be posters without any text.. Seems like that would defeat the purpose somewhat.. |

I guess this would turn out to be one challenge which would rely so much of your challenge entry title.
One doubt I have is: Which way do they mean by rejected?
Is it like it is rejected because the photo do not have relevance with the movie name?
-Or- Is it like photo is not too good to be used as a movie poster?
-Or- is it like rejected only because there is already a good movie poster which they do not want to change?

ANOTHER thread about people over thinking the challenge! SHEESH...
Think of the "cutting room floor". Shots that wouldn't make it even to editing cause they were out in left field.....
Don't overcomplicate everything |

A bit harsh - I hadn't a clue what this was getting at. Seems a bit of a strange idea for a challenge to me. |

Not directed solely at you. My apologies. Check out the threads for the other recent challenges. You will see what I am getting at. |

Seriously? You're actually calling me out, in a thread (against the rules, you should probably read them) and accusing me of "over thinking the challenge" and that I "overcomplicate(sic) everything"..
--
Yeah, I was curious if text would be allowed as it has been in several previous challenges (including postcards, motivational poster (I, II, and III), de-motivational poster, and I'm sure others.)..
Honestly, I feel that you're just needlessly attempting to start an argument, it was a serious and valid question... |

WOW!
Seriously, let's step back and take a breath here. The comment was made GENERALLY. Not just to you. It seems like everytime a challenge is posted, a thread starts where people start to argue about the fine details of the "intentions" of the challenge.
I am not too sure which rules you are referring to....(against the rules, you should probably read them), but, there was no offense intended.
I was just trying to make the point of take a frickin picture of what YOU think the challenge is all about.
I was not referring to your question in particular....just fyi.
IMHO I think that adding text is contradictory to the "Text" rule. YOU MAY NOT: add text to your entry or its border during editing. This includes copyright statements.

First, ok, I'll totally forget this happened.
Second, the rules are the forum posting rules, which you should have already read.
Third, there are several very good reasons we "argue about the fine details of the 'intentions' of the challenge":
-Somebody really doesn't understand, and is looking for clarification
-An omission has occurred somehow, and more info is needed
-Feeling out the crowd, and what the general interpretation of the challenge will be (this is actually the ONLY way to figure this bit of info out).
-Some one of many other reasons I either do not know, or cannot remember.
****
In any case, let's just not worry too much about this little conversation. I'm sure you meant nothing by it, and I can assure you I'll hold absolutely no grudge or anything like that, after all, you didn't do anything that was TOO much over the line ;)..
Cheers! |

I'm confused by these rules... at what point does graphic art become non-photographic in nature? Does this mean glowing effects, abstract figures that are distorted, and an array of old photographs can be used? |

As per your additional text:
Have a look at these past challenges, and you'll see why I thought that "Poster" might imply a need for an exception to the No Text rule.
Motivational Poster
Motivational Poster II
Motivational Poster III
De-Motivational Poster |

I appreciate the post sincerely.
I guess I have been jaded by ALL the other posters in ALL the other threads which clearly have not read, "the rules are the forum posting rules, which you should have already read."
In any event, best of luck to you in your submission. I have some great ideas, and I am sure you do as well. Otherwise you wouldn't have been here!
Best of luck my friend! |

I took it as make a well designed movie poster for a really bad movie that wouldn't make it, eg, something along the lines of "1001 Ways to file your taxes" (best I could think of on the spot). |

Yes. :)
And I'd say that IMHO, it becomes non-photographic in nature somewhere around 50/50 (only if the non-photograph portion is very well done, and blends seamlessly with the photographic.).. Although I've little doubt that this will be a source of significant contention among the voters.. |

Psh, I'm used to half the voters not liking my photos, and the other half liking them. But, I guess if it can't get DQ'd regardless of what I do.... might as well have some fun. |

All photos used must be taken within the challenge period like any other challenge, and all originals must be submitted if validation is required.
Effects should largely be OK, but (unfortunately IMO) are still at the mercy of the subjective opinion of those voting on the validation. |

Or like "Star Wars: Return of The Jedi" with Luke waiting for a bus....
I took it as A movie with B movie poster

What does this mean then, in the rules?
"use images that do not meet the source or date requirements as textures in your entry if they function specifically as textures and not to circumvent other rules." |

No. Text is still prohibited unless flagged as an "Extra Rule" even for the Expert Editing rule set. You can all read the rules right here ... |

Do we get a Godzilla movie from you Art? Or is it going to be a "Woody" Allen film? |
