My family are planning a tour around the UK in the summer, to see loads of places we've never been before, and obviously I'm itching to take some nice photos that I wouldnt normally get an opportunity to take. So, does anyone have any suggestions for places to go? Places with great landscapes, architechture, other cool photo ops, and also fun/interesting stuff to do if my CF card gets full :)

Can't beat Scotland...
Loads to do around where I am, then head further up and there's LOADS of places to go.
If you are in the area and your CF card is full, give me a shout and I'll copy it all to a CD for you so you can take even more!! :-) |

Yorkshire dales, in particular go to Swaledale, head west from Richmond and wherever you point your camera you will have a superb image.
Northumberland, in particuler Bamborough and Lindisfarne (Holy Island). The coast is just dripping with castles and its on the east coast so sunrises are spectacular.

Clovelly is perhaps the most weird place I've ever been in the UK. get shivers just thinking about it - a town that you have to pay to get into?
I would choose the Lincolnshire Wolds - no photographer I know have has ever come close to doing it justice (an attempt remains one of my long term plans) ... but that's more than a brief tour's worth of work.

hmmm - the Wolds, now that a place I never really considered, you might have a point there. It east of me and I rarely head that way, more often than not its the Peak or the Coast.

Whitby is a very photogenic place... the nicest English seaside town IMO.

Got to be Scotland.
Lots of beautiful scenery, the odd monster or two and less smelly than Engerland :-)

Try Jersey in the channel islands, 9 by 5 miles, cliffs, beaches, beautiful reservoirs and sand dunes, amazing sunsets. Better weather than the mainland ;)
Oh yeah and great surf!

You could try:
Dorset
if you're going South, or the North Yorkshire Moors, including Whitby, Kilburn and Osmotherly with its beautiful views and trickling brooks - anywhere in the general area is beautiful.
If you stay North you could then go on to the Lakes, as has been suggested (simply endless photo opps)
... and on to Scotland after that? Check out Andy Wightman's, agwright and geewhy's shots.
Or you could come to Enfield!!

If you like statley homes & landscaped gardens try checking out National Trust properties. There are hundreds all over the UK. |

Clovelly is one of the most picturesqe villages you could find. It is also the steepest village around, so steep in face that there is no vehicular access to the village atall. Anything comming in to or out of the village has to be loaded on to wooden sleds which slide over the cobble stone paving. (Pulled by donkeys)
Theres a nice beach & harbour at the bottom.
(If you can't manage to walk up or down the slope there is a landrover available which takes a different route down & up)
Unfortunatley you do have to pay to visit the village, but in my opinion it is well worth it. You will get some great photo oportunities if you go |

Yes, but most stately homes don't allow photography... watch out for that! |

Hi Paul
Checked out your PBase gallery of the Lake District as I'm off on Hols there later this year. Some great shots, It's a shame you haven't said exactly where in the lakes the pictures were taken. |

I'm just echoing a few of the places already mentioned, but here goes.
Cornwall - a week wasn't nearly enough to cover the tip of this iceberg!
7 Days in Cornwall
Highlights for me were the Eden Project (a must visit for flower macros) and the Cornish Birds of Prey Centre (over 50 birds, and the chance to see 2 or 3 birds in flight).
The Lake District - stick a pin in the map, you're guaranteed a beautiful view.
The Ribble Valley (think Tolkien) and the North Yorkshire Moors are well worth putting on your list.
And don't forget Wales. I haven't been for years, but will be returning this year to 'conquer' Snowdon ; )

Hi Chris,
I meant to label each one but never got around to it,most of em are on the general tourist routes around the major lakes and passes.
Depends where you are heading but I would reccomend the route from junction 40 (m6) through to Windermere,on a decent day the scenery is breathtaking.
If you fancy any particular scene from the pbase shots just pm me and I will try to identify,
Thanks for looking,
Paul.
