Ok, my heart and passion lately has been street photography. I literally moved from Charleston SC to Los Angeles to pursue this and I have had some pretty interesting experiences so far. I want to make sure my shots are really coming out and are effective.

I have them all uploaded into my street gallery, if anyone is so kind to help me out. Please be as harsh as possible. Any help is great, thanks so much :)gallery is here

I'm sure there's different styles of street photography, but to me it's all about the connection with the people being photographed. When I look at your linked photos I don't see a whole lot of emotional connection with the people. You seem to be still an observer. It's almost like you're still not comfortable getting in close, which I'd assume will get easier in time.

One clearly stands out.

When I think of street photography, I always go back to pawdrix. Even if the person being photographed isn't looking at the camera, I still see a connection between the subject and the photographer. I don't know how long he spends studying these people, but their personalities are captured, and they're more than just people walking down the street.

On a processing note, your photos are too dark to me. The people are almost completely sucked into the blackness.

Thanks for the response. It's real difficult to do these shots since it's skid row. I have noticed myself getting more comfortable around the streets the more I do it. Most people don't want to be photographed so it's hit and miss. Still learning for sure.

I wantto tell the story and there's a big story to tell. The dark images are just how I've always shot I guess. I think it portrays the mood of the streets. It's also that I think darker black and whites are better. I'm sort of blinded in this sense and looking to break out and shoot brighter images.
