I have a question, I have never entered a challenge before. I scammed over the rules. But, my grandmother recently passed away. And my mother is in critical condition in the hospital. So my concentration, is not that great. Sorry, if this is a repeated question. But, I snapped a few pictures this morning. Can we use splash of color, or is that illegal ? Or do we only get to use the basic crop, and etc ?

Thank you,
April

The best way I think of basic editing - is that if I apply my "tweaks" to the image as a whole / globally then it's okay. As in sharpening - do the whole pic, not just one thing. Apply curves to the whole pic, not just a selected area. So, no splash of color in basic - that would be desaturating only a portion of the picture. This is by no means the entirety of the Basic Editing rules - but they are the one's I go by.

Edited to add: GOOD LUCK!! Sorry to hear of your losses and struggles - think of this as a pleasant distraction!

ErinKirstin is correct... but there is a legal way to do partial desat with Basic Rules.

Darn... I've just searched for the tutorial here on the site and can't find it. Did find some stuff I want to go back and look at for myself though... but I digress.

Overall, the rule is ... what's done, has to be done to the ENTIRE image... not just a part. So, desat the one color in the entire image is legal.

I'm praying for you and your family. Tough times. *sigh*

So so true - you can desaturate just the one color or colors from the entire image - thanks for bringing that up.
