I have had a passion for photography since I was old enough to hold a camera. The mere way life looks through a telephoto lenses truly intrigues me. Cause every photograph is a memory frozen in time. Forever to be immortalized. I am looking for a true photographer website. That's not a scam, out for the money. This one seems to be good from what I have seen. Can anyone explain the challenges to me. I see a blue ribbon on the screen. I am sorry but I have been scammed a couple of times. I am just being a little more curious this time. But, so far I like what I see. Seems to be some helpful people. I don't have a lot of equipment to work with like most do. But, everyone seems to be happy with my work. I run a photography business out of my home. But, I want to expand, and learn more. I want an honest site, where I can learn and have some fun.

Hi Memories...
Welcome to DPC. I have been lurking here for a couple of years and just joined because I got a camera worth working with. I can't really speak to how the challenges work because I have not entered any yet. However, this is a site that I have learned an enormous amount from and I have found that the people here are more than willing to help you in any way they can. There is no money involved - except if you join and 25 bucks a year isn't bad for the space and wealth of information you get with the membership.
I hope you find what you are looking for here. Look around ... see what you think. You will not be disappointed.

Run away, now, while you still can!!! ......8>)
This site will make you laugh, cry, scream with frustration, give you hope, dash your hopes, make you ecstaic beyond your wildest imagination, and unless you're dead between the ears and completely unwilling to do the work, you WILL learn.
Other than that......nuthin' special......

ok memories.....I will tell you a little bit about this site....Generally there are some real good people / photographers here. For the "money" that it cost for a full membership, it is really a good deal. I have been a member her for several years and have had the great fortune to actually meet some great people associated with this website. It is a structured photography site. That means there are rules. The people here are also extremely helpful. If you don't learn anything here....you are not trying. I hope to see you around here more...Good luck in DPC.

First, welcome to things.
The way the challenges work is you provide a low-res version (at least 160 pixels on a side and at most 800 pixels on the longest side and up to 300kb). The challenge entries are then randomly assorted and voted upon by the site populace for a week. During this time, you can make comments on other photos, which will help everybody learn something. If, after voting has been completed, you wanted some additional feedback, you can post it in the individual photograph discussion forum and get some more specific opinions. If I remember correctly, you retain ownership of your photo but grant DPC a nonexclusive worldwide and perpetual right to use for promotion (anybody with a better answer feel free to correct).
Ribbons are awarded for top placing entries, and are of no monetary value. The primary focus of the site is on learning and dissemination of information.
If you have a specific question about pretty much anything photography related, feel free to ask in the forums, but please try to do a search of the forums on your own first. We're here to help, but answering the same question once a week can get tiresome.
Some new users are intimidated about entering challenges. If this is the case, you can also enter "side challenges" which are basically threads where a "theme" is chosen for the photographs and all the participating users follow said theme, posting their images to the thread and providing each other with constructive feedback. There is no voting in these side challenges, and the rules are often very relaxed.
Any other questions, feel free to ask.
Here is the DPC FAQ and Glossary of frequently used terms/abbreviations.

Welcome to the phunny pharm of fotografy. Run while you still can! Ack, too late! Well, in that case you may as well put on your thickest skin and jump into the shark tank. |
