I've been working all day on some photos I took a few weeks ago as well as a few I took today. Feedback and suggestions are much appreciated. Please forgive if this is too many. This isn't even everything I did. There are b&w versions of Emmylou, a color version of Sally, and a few other things that I uploaded today but I didn't want to push it (sheepish grin).

I deleted the last image because it occurs to me I can enter it in the Deep DOF challenge if I change my mind about my current entry.

the BW dog shot is best
appears that the focus is soft, or the image was edited heavily.

When shooting indoors (last 2 dog pics) be sure to adjust your WB (white balance) setting on your camera to "Incandesent Light" (little icon of a light bulb). This should help the yellow tone problem in those pictures. Or you can use Photoshop to adjust the color by using Levels (or Auto-Levels). If auto-levels overcorrects, use it manually.
The other shots look out of focus (all of them), except you may have done it on purpose on the B&W dog. Also on the first pic, remember to rotate the picture 2 or so degrees to the left. It's current tilted a little to the right. The frame is kind of nice. |

I agree with Chris. They look more out-of-focus than soft focus, which may have been your intention. I like the expressive dog shots. |

I knew someone was going to tell me this.I should have mentioned it in my opening. This is the color of the dog. I actually did do some color balance and curve adjustments but the walls are painted yellow, the floor is actually orangey, the carpet is orangey and the dog is quite golden wheat colored. The light was actually daylight coming in from the window. I think the light has that look because of the floor. I didn't want to change the natural color of the dog but when I did an auto level adjustment the color went to pale. I fiddle with it some more, I guess.

I actually checked all the verticals I could using guide lines and they seemed pretty straight to me. There might be some distortion. I double check it.
Thanks,
Melissa

Very nice, all of them. I love the first "Emmylou." She looks so sad. :o( I also like "Black and White", but I don't know why...it's so unusual! "Sally" is my favorite, however. So expressive! :o)

Thanks Laurie. I'm glad you like 'Sally" and "Black and White". I personally liked the odd, abstract quality of "Black and White". "Sally" looks a little weird on my laptop monitor. Not as nice. It was photoshopped prety heavily to elimate a cluttered background.
The first shot of my cat, I deleted because I noticed it looked completely different on the laptop monitor. I had burned in shadows in the background to eliminate some ugly laundry clutter but I noticed that stuff still showed on the monitor of the laptop. I have to figure out why it was so different.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to comment on this shots. It's always appreciated. Good luck to all who entered the Deep DOF challenge and Threes.
