I feel your pain. I am on 5.6 and I feel the same way. I too spent a lot of time on this shot. First I went shopping for a variety of nice fruit and then spent ages and many shots to get the arrangement right and then spent almost an entire evening editing my entry till it was the way I wanted it. Unfortunately the majority of voters don't seem to like it half as much as I do. :(

I'd be curious to see what the average vote received is at this point. Sounds like a 5.7 will take home a ribbon. And all I want is at least ONE friggin comment tellin' me why my entry is so horrible.

Well, I did the same thing... But since I enjoyed the experience and learned a lot (my first still life experience, I think), I'm calling it a success.

My score's just over a six, so I'm pleased with that, too... but I'm most pleased that I understand still lifes just a bit more.

[quote=Yo_Spiff] I don't know how a well exposed, sharp image with good colors and lighting is doing this poorly. Maybe I'm blind. Hoping someone takes the time to explain to me why it's so "meh".

I'd be happy to, if you want to PM me which one is yours. I'm not voting in this challenge anyway.

always the exact same script...

now I'm really sure, some people do it on purpose, just sees a photograph that can be considered good, vote 3 and 4 ...

i've already payed for this year, i'm now almost regretting having done.

I'm really angry...

Similar here - I enjoyed the slow, purposeful plan, deciding at liesure what I wanted to convey, setting it up carefully and looking at each attempt to analyze what could be better. It's still running below 6, but climbing. I look at the shot as a success, mostly because I learned and enjoyed, which I don't do nearly enough. And the two comments tell me the picture is doing what I wanted. Higher score would be nice, but the shot is good, not great.

Yippee it crossed 5! It takes so much to cross a 6, but to cross a 5, even trolls cannot do too much damage.

My score just took 3 serious hits, 3 votes 3 major drops after being stable through the first 70 votes... Strategy Voting?

ETA: 2 more hits, trying real hard now to convince myself that the last 4 or 5 voters are not the same person.

This is bizarre! I don't think I've ever seen so many people, some of who I know are great photographers, score so badly! It makes me feel better about my score of 5.1667!

I should have known better. I haven't finished sub-5 since July, 2006. I hope it stays that way.

Don't worry about scores just enjoy your art and the fine work of others. I enter the shot I myself like and if it scores well then yipee, if it don't score well then so be it, I still like it and enjoy it.
Life is too short to have regrets, have a rest instead.

Speaking of Topaz...I was surprised to see it applied to images in this challenge. Guess it's kind of like magic fairy dust or something, eh? :-)

what is with all the 4s and 5s today? my first 70 votes were mostly 6s and 7s all of a sudden I am getting hammered. I think we should ban voting on Mondays.

It's been going down, and I hadn't even posted - how could I have angered the posting gods?
