"You may not; submit a photograph depicting male or female genitalia, or acts of sex deemed inappropriate by a majority of the Site Council."

Now, I am ASSUMING I was DQed for this statement. However I did not receive notification of any such event. My image was simple stripped from the site with all evidence of it ever being here.

I believe this statement/rule needs to be clarified....

Depicting
Main Entry: de·pict
Pronunciation: \di-ˈpikt, dē-\
Function: transitive verb
Etymology: Latin depictus, past participle of depingere, from de- + pingere to paint — more at paint
Date: 15th century

1 : to represent by or as if by a picture

Depicting
de·pict (d-pkt)
tr.v. de·pict·ed, de·pict·ing, de·picts
1. To represent in a picture or sculpture.
2. To represent in words; describe. See Synonyms at represent.

------------------------------------------------

According to the definition my image did not DEPICT genitalia. Yes, it contained genitalia, but in no way possible was it being depicted. Seriously you had to even look for it to see it. In no way was it a major element of the image nor was it the focus. The image was in no way sexual in nature, nor was it even remotely pornographic.

To end any future unfair treatment, this needs to be clarified to 'contain' instead of depict. Because depict is very clear in its meaning to most people.

What kind of challenge would you have this run under; Open or Member?

Subject: Rule Clarification
Challenge Details: Depict a Rule that needs clarification in your photo.

Examples could be something like a car turning left on a one-way street that goes to the right, with a one-way sign showing in the background?

Definitions of depict (vt)
portray: to describe or portray something in words
show in picture: to show something in a picture, painting, or sculpture
Synonyms: portray, show, represent, describe, illustrate, paint, give a picture of

Definition of pic·ture (pik′c̸hər)

noun

1.an image or likeness of an object, person, or scene produced on a flat surface, esp. by painting, drawing, or photography

So... to show something in a photograph...

I assume you showed genitalia in a photograph and were DQ'd?

And you're questioning this why?

"You may not; submit a photograph depicting male or female genitalia, or acts of sex deemed inappropriate by a majority of the Site Council."

I'm very interested in exactly WHAT you thought this meant if you didn't think you could photograph genitalia.

Please excuse me if I'm incorrect in my understanding of your original post.

I realize that English is not my first language, but just what is the problem here?

Seems abundantly clear to me.

I found the image evocative, it made me stop and think. I really liked it for it's statement; however, keeping Mr. Johnson around for a DPC challenge was likely pure shock value. Too bad. All he had to do was tuck it away! Actually cloning it out for the challenge would have been a great solution. Like he said, it wasn't a major element.

So... perhaps littlegett is mixing up "featuring" with "depicting"?

He thinks 'depict' means 'feature'?

Oh.

Well, the rules seems clear enough to me.

I think he knew he was "representing" genitalia "in a picture" as the description he posted states.

But, if not... it's a tough lesson to learn. Err on the side of caution.

Or ask first.

Yeah, no mystery that it was DQ'd.

I do like Barry's challenge suggestion!

Rule says, "You may not; submit a photograph depicting male or female genitalia, or acts of sex deemed inappropriate by a majority of the Site Council."

[tongue in cheek]
This got me to thinking: Are there acts of sex the site council would deem appropriate? Maybe we could focus on the positive.
[/tongue in cheek]

Oh crap! Did I violate terms of service? Would tongue in cheek be deemed inappropriate?

It depends on in whose cheek we find your tongue ... ;-)

when I read this rule I came to the simple conclussion if it shows a penis or vagina it doesn't belong on this site. The penis or vagina don't need to be the subject, they just need to be in the picture. End of discussion.

Does this include animal genitalia? Cause I've seen a few monkey penises on this site haha

Senay, stop calling people names! *just kidding*

It's human genitalia only that are verboten. Animals are fine. I asked once.

I'd love to take credit for the challenge suggestion, but I'm not the OP - however...I figured since the thread was created under Challenge Suggestions a Subject and Details couldn't hurt any. :-P
