Like I said..different strokes for different folks. |
When it's a boring background or other element in it, yes. Way to take it out of context ;) |
Sorry, I didn't mean it to sound like that.
I really wasn't trying to do anything with the background and I don't think tonemapping or lucisart did anything to improve the background. I personally don't think it's a "boring" picture and I like the way lucisart looks on people shots. That's just me though. I know many people don't like the look of it.
I was just trying to make the point that I don't think most people use these processes to try to "save" a pic with a boring background.
I know you, and probably many more people thought it was boring. I wasn't going for an "exciting action" shot. Anyways...I'm rambling on...I do appreciate your input!! |

The action wasn't boring, but the background is very simple. Needs either action with other people, a conversion to B&W... something to make the gray background less obvious. |

Sorry......didn't mean to sound bitchy, but I *do* hate that "Topaz, as always, ruins an image" thing......8>)

To me all of the tools are supposed to be for enhancement, and though sometimes a special look is needed, by and large, they should be used to make the picture look good without someone being able to say, "Yeah, he/she used ________ on that one for sure.".

As a portrait this is very good. Many are taking it as an action hockey shot, which to me didn't strike me as one upon first view. I still think it's more of a portrait shot. |

You got a 5.7
Why should it get a higher score than that? I hardly ever get a score higher than that, or even close to that.
It's a guy holding a hockey stick... ??? |

I definitely would not classify this image as "Boring", but it most certainly does fall within the realm of "Average" for the reasons identified by many.
All factors considered, I do earnestly believe that this image fared rather well.

Yes, I agree. When I see a definitely Topazed (or whatever) picture it feels like seeing someone wearing too much make up - you just wish they'd used a lighter hand ;) |

Here's something to think about...
You leveled off the lines, giving the image a sterile feeling. I assume you did so to please the average DPC voter, that doesn't like tilts but in doing so, you zapped the shot of it's energy.
I would have tilted that image even more in PP but I didn't want to cut too much from the back of the car but you can still sense the difference in movement and energy. I think your image is screaming for a tilted angle and maybe a more energetic crop in general.
eta: your guy also doesn't have the puck...so, he's chasing the action, not in it.

Thanks Steve, You're right, I have been programed to level it out! A tilt might have been an improvement. |
