Recently I read a thread about someone who got a comment stating that they voted their shot low bc it had a validation note on the bottom. Now, regradless of what I personally think of such a voting process (read: I think it is unfair & ridiculous), big ups to the person for having the guts to even post a comment saying what they were doing. More people should own up to their votes, I think, but that's a different issue.
Basically, should there be an addition or a note in the rules, if there isn;t already, that encourages folks to disregard notes like that when voting, further stating that there are a plethora of reasons why a shot my get a dq request, including that the fotog themselves could be the one asking for it?
I wonder how many shots of suffered in the voting process bc of folks voting low due to the validation note or the dq request note? More importantly, has a great shot ever one that has had this note attaached to it? If not, I wonder what the highest placing has been for a shot that got a dq request & was validated.
Anyone got any answers out there or thought bc I would love to hear 'em.

I think there is something on the site that clearly states to not let that affect your voting, to leave it to the site counsel. You are supposed to vote without that as any part of it as I understand it. Of course, there are many things stated . . . . . not always adhered to!

"If you feel a photograph has violated the site rules, you may click the "Recommend Disqualification for this Picture" link and enter your reason why. You should then vote on the photo as if the rule was not broken, and leave the determination up to the administrators."
This is what the rules say. Maybe this is enough but I have feeling that folks dont really read the rules, unfortunately. I guess this makes this all moot but should there be more specificity in regards to voting after the admin note has been added?

I think it's very clear . . more a matter of how much people read and follow such things. If there is one thing I have learned here is the wide variety of people, opinions, tendancies, attitudes, etc.!!!!!

My photo in one of the current challenges was validated and my score went straight up since then. I think it really helped my photo to be validated. [/url] |

Yo Kylie,
I hear you loud & clear... both times and I agree whole-heartedly with you. You can;t change how people will vote but if someone votes you down & leaves a comment about it, then there is at least a written agrument to disagree with it.
Just asking for opinions not absolutes.

the general voting public doesn't know when a photo has been recommended for DQ until the validation notice is posted. i can't see why having a photo validated would make people vote lower. if anything, i would think that the votes might be a bit higher because the "wow" factor (if that was the reason for the DQ request) has been achieved within the site editing rules.

Oops! Did I sound like I was coming down on you??? That wasn't meant -- just an echo if anything. I hate that you can't always convey what you mean in writing!! Sorry! We are on the same page.
