Is it acceptable to discuss the individual photos in the forums during the voting? Or would that be considered âbad Formâ?

I think everybody should be able to make their own opinions. Discussing a particular photo may inadvertently prejudice some voters. IMHO

I really wish this could be done but I think it's frowned upon for fear that it may sway the vote. *I* don't think that the vote sway, if any, would be significant since a minority of the participants actually participate in the forums...

I think that if you have a question about a particular photo, it is probably ok to ask though :)

I would love to discuss certian photos that I think are great, but others might not feel they meet the challenge. I see clearly that some might just bring up their own photos in the forum just to hear the chatter. But we will know that of them when the scores post. Many of the photos from the last challenge are not getting continued critiques because everyone is geared up for the next challenge. I think it could be a good thing to be able to openly discuss the current photos - isn't that really what we are all here for?

that would be difficult to discuss without having the owner of the photograph complain about it.

I would love to hear you fighting about my photos. I would love to hear both sides of the fence, and how it matches up with my own ideas.

This has been done, to me. My first time at this was with my Crash photo.. ya know, the upside down truck all blurry and light effects? I enjoyed reading EVERYTHING about it. Whether it was negative about how it was morbid,etc.. or how it should have been done.. or hearing from those that liked it and defended it on the forums.

I personally waited the week before I shared any comments about my own photo. I think as long as nobody gets outright mean regarding photos, then go for it. But if it gets out of hand, well now.. whats what we have mods for right? ;)

I, personally, would love to see photos discussed... I don't think this feeling is mutual among all though...

I don't think this is a good idea while voting is in progress. I think it would be a GREAT idea if we picked a photo from a previous challenge and discussed it. To many people on this site have the mentallity of only the current challenge matters. We have lots of great photos in the archives, lets talk about them.

This idea has been discussed before.

I see the site as a learning site. Others see the site as a competition as serious as the pulitzer :-)

Judges discuss photos in major contests all the time. I know they don't have photos IN the contest but so what..this ain't for money, prestige or nothing but fun and learning.

Discuss away in my opinion.

Why not see if Drew/Langdon can set up a separate folder for it? Maybe rename the "Current Challenge" folder to something like "Next Challenge" or "Upcoming Challenge," and create a "Current Challenge to Vote On" folder for discussion of the photos being voted on. That way, the people who don't want to participate in discussion of photos being voted on can simply avoid the folder.
