It's not every day you see a Bald Eagle in Herndon VA. This fellow stayed at his perch preening just long enough for me to circle back home and get my camera - then flew off after I only got off a few shots. It was very rainy and I used a point and shoot, not gonna win any ribbons - but I have proof for my doubters at home that these lovely birds do visit suburbia on occasion!
Just thought I'd share.

Until now I didn't think eagles had bodies and being up in that tree makes it look like it's not even in captivity! That's just crazy.

Last week I was at a local park to meet a family for a portrait session. Family was a bit late and while they were waiting I shot pics of 2 adult bald eagles and 2 youth bald eagles soaring far overhead. I had my portrait lens on the camera, which is short and wide. Not great shots. After they soared for a bit I ran to the car for a long lens and by the time I got back they were too far away for any decent shot. Still, I know that they are still around and that at least one nesting couple is just a few miles from my house. :)
