Ok, I know its been asked before but anyone care to give me the pros and cons of either of these lenses?

Am an eager newbie and shortly to spend a week on the Norfolk Broads so will be taking wildlife shots on a boat. I like the length of the 75-300 but hear I'll get better quality pics with the 70-200, I've never printed any pics and doubt I'd go over 8x10 if I did (though it would be nice to be able to)

Best UK prices I have found are £499 for the 70-200 & £370 for the 75-300. With my holiday coming up I can't stretch to the 1.4 extension for the 70-200 but wonder if I should go for 'quality' now and distance at a later date? With my track record for upgrading cameras I don't really want to shift that to lenses.

Maybe I've answered my own question? if I can get the L lens within the fortnight should I go for it?

I spent a lot of time today viewing pictures from both lenses and to be honest I couldn't say a picture from one was better than the other.

Thanks in advance for any comments :)

ps, had a drink again :)

Good point, well said ;) ps is off limits tonight!

Ok, so maybe I should change my name to the 'clone stranger'

Well, I rang the peeps I'd ordered the 70-200 f4 from asking about delivery, Canon(UK?) are out of stock until the second week of June and will only be getting a "small" shipment in. Back orders meant I'd maybe be out of luck with this batch and I'm on holiday the week after. So (and totally sober) I went for the 75-300 USM IS that should be with me tomorrow. I plan to add something like the 28-135 USM IS to give me a decent 2 lens kit.

It was always a toss up betwix the 2 and the £150 saving will go towards my next lens, or beer for when I'm in PS7, or lessons, or another Tropical Tank or maybe even food.
