I thought this photo was excellent in the habits challenge and suffered badly from being a little bit out of the ordinary.

I agree with you.
I gave this shot a TEN.
This is one of my favorite shots of the competition. |

I think it suffered more from being out of focus, and from being "another nailbiter photo", rather than out of the ordinary.

Hang on................
I gave this a 10 too and I just noticed so did Polo123 in the comments
BUT There is only one registered 10 in the voting breakdown......what's going on?

Compositionally, it's very solid. In this specific case, I think the focus is too soft. It ends up feeling more like an accident than an on purpose. In open challenges, you really have to watch the use of soft focus. There are too many people who are posting truly out of focus shots.
With slightly harder focus, I might have gone as high as a 7.

Maybe not all 10 votes finished voting on 20% or maybe all their other votes were 1's - which means the "dpc robot" will throw them out for vote-swaying.

I also gave this shot a ten?
That's 3 tens at least.
What's going on? |

3 votes were made giving this photo a 10, but votes from polo123 and kevrobertson were ignored due to not voting for 20% of photos in the challenge - confirmed by Drew :)

My vote wasn't counted. No red when i view pictures.
I don't understand why not as i voted on all the pictures.
I had a full range of votes not just 1 ten and the rest 1's.
I don't get it. Can someone explain please why my votes aren't being counted.

I don't know exactly how the algorithm for determining what votes to ignore works, but you had almost 200 votes under a 3, which I expect is the reason your votes were ignored.

Fair point
I do vote quite low.
But i vote 3 or 4 times over the week and i do sort out what i like and what i don't. It is not a deliberate act of scoring low. If i like a shot and it is well taken and composed and meets the challange, then it scores high. If i feel that a shot doesn't meet the challange then it doesn't. I try not to give too many ones but 2 or 3 is quite common.
So what this means is that to get my vote counted i am going to have to artificially increase my spread of votes.
Just went through the rest of the challanges that i have voted on and i seem to be ok on all them, whilst still applying the same factors. So there must have been more shots in this challange that i felt were not as good as others.
Sorry if i have upset anyone by voting lower than allowed.

There's nothing really wrong with your way of voting, but there has to be a method in place to throw out "cheat" votes. Unfortunatly, it's possible for it to make mistakes and throw out genuine votes because it can't tell what a voter is thinking.

I do understand that. I wasn't really complaining.
I never realised that i had voted so many low. Looking through the results there does seem to be a good spread of votes. I thought there was some excelent images in this comp.
I will look at my voting pattern in future.

In a challenge of 256 pictures it seems very odd that to your mind 200 of them either didn't fit the challenge or were awful and you scored them 3 or under. Some of the Habit pictures weren't pretty but almost all of them met the challenge.
I guess you should hope that not everyone is as critical of your pictures as you are of theirs. |

@ kevrobertson
your average vote - based on your profile, and not including the most recent challenges is a 3.7 - its fairly obvious you lean to the below average side when scoring...

I'm not the best Photographer. (By far...)
I honestly didn't realise i was voting so low on a lot of shots.
I am now voting higher...
There are a lot of great shots on this site and if i vote them at 9s and 10s then the other shots have to be lower.
Maybe i need to look at my voting, but i have consistantly marked this way since i joined.
I don't want to start an argument on a site that i love, but keep an eye on my profile and i'm sure the average vote cast will rise.
But if i feel that a shot doesn't meet what i think to be a good photo then i will still mark it low, as i hope others will do with my photos.
