How many steps? I think I could somehow manage that many to the beach--just maybe...

Cant wait to see the creativity of the people who enter.
Although i am wondering...can we take props? This will be hard for a lot of people.
Oh and what if someone just happends to come along with us? would that be cheating? (I want to actually follow the rules. =]

All kidding aside, this challenge is actually an example of an established creativity-goad used by photography teachers. The idea, actually, is NOT to try to find a way to get somewhere spectacular in 47 steps, but rather to really get into whatever is there, when you get there, and explore its possibilities.

It's a great exercise...

Of course this is DPC, which means the winning pictures will be the most appealing pictures, which means everyone is gonna try to be appealing, and so forth and so on, and that's really too bad. Interesting photos of weeds, debris, and dirt would be wonderful to see :-)

You're on! Some of my favourite subjects anyway. I do love this idea for a challenge as it ties in so well with what i'm enjoying most about photography at the moment. I loved doing my Triptych entry as that was all about finding lost and found subjects in situ in the streets where i live.

I just tried doing 47 steps, from various doors with various results. Out my back door I can't even walk 35 steps without hitting my fence, which I cannot materialize thru. If I go out the side door from my garage, I end up going over a cliff. That would work but I don't have any repelling equipment. If I walk a straight line from my front door, I cross the street and face a dirt hill, and again, I cannot even walk 35 steps.

you can try very small steps :)

I got arrested for standing on my neighbours car. I tried to explain the challenge to the cops but they wouldn't listen. I counted the steps to their patrol car and it came out to 47 so I asked the cop to fetch my camera and he refused. I even tempted him by saying there was a doughnut in my camera bag. That's when they handcuffed me.

Can anyone spare some money for bail?

I'm definitely in on this one but I'll try another direction this time... ;/

Well, as a last resort I can do all the steps and just whistle. My dog will come running and then I can snap a picture :)

Can we bring stuff with us? A lawn chair, bowling ball, handkerchief, etc?

I just re-read the description and one can use any door. Well, that opens the possibilities!
Thanks for the post :)
Can some steps be up a ladder? Just a-wonderin'.

well, mine 47 steps are in, it was the only possible shot looking out. I have a lot of shots captured from my balcony

but this entry is different from these.

Where did you get the idea that you can use any door? Unless you meant any door in your home. I don't think you can use, let's say, a door from a store or from a car. If so, great!

The description says, "...the door of your home,..."

I went to reread the description hoping that it said any door, not necessarily your home. Oh well, guess I'll have to use that thing called imagination and get a shot from my boring street.

Drat! There is only one door to my home. So don't even have the option of using another entrance/exit :-/

What would you do if a fire broke out in front of the only door?

I say get a chainsaw and prop it next to a wall, just in case. hehe Or just use it right now and sculpt your new door with it.

I gave this a go today, Without my camera because it was a misrable afternoon here. But wanted to see how far 47 steps would take me. If I go left I can actually get close enough to the ocean to take a fairly boring shot of the bare horizion, If I go to the right no matter what I do I will be in the middle of a busy road. So perhaps my entry will be titled, The second before I got run over by a bus.

I gave this a go today, thinking I have a good rural area to get some interesting shots. I took over 100 snaps and that is what I ended up with...snaps not good photos.

But I did end up with several ticks crawling over me...so that is something.

Thought by now the weather would be cold enough in your area to make ticks a non-issue this time of year? We're lousy with 'em in the summer, but fairly non-existent currently. Maybe yours are a hardier bunch, eh? :-)

Ours are ferocious in the fall. I think they are 'getting all they can get' before the hard freeze. My poor dog is a pin cushion with tick bites this time of year.

As an apartment dweller, I expect I'll be using the street door to begin my count, not my apartment door. But maybe I'll try both and see where they lead me.

I don't live anywhere fancy, I live in an apt on the third floor, I'm surrounded by mud and concrete.. I'm good! I am excited about this one! : D
