After seeing the results for my centered entry I wish I would have gone with my other version of the shot. But oh well, you lose some and you lose some more.
Here is the one I entered,
I had this crazy idea that the tight crop would lead one to believe that the orange was being squeezed, causing the drop to form. Boy was I wrong.
Here is the one that I now whish I would have gone with,
I just like it better and feel it met the challenge better. So why didn't I enter it in the first place? Because I not very smart sometimes.
Please any thoughts on this would be appreciated. And do you think the second image would have done better?
Thanks in advance for any feedback. |

Nick your right...that captured drop is an eye catcher!! I would of voted it higher. The first one was busy reflection, water and the crop bothered me a bit.

I love the detail in the orange in the second shot. The starbursts on the drop are a nice touch. I like the first one as well, but the tight crop definitely detracts from the photo. A square composition with the orange slice centered might have a more pleasing symmetry to it. I can't say which one would have scored higher, but my vote would probably be 1 or 2 points higher for the second. |

After seeing your second shot, well that's a no brainer. I would have gone 2 marks higher. The center of focus is the drop, not being distracted by the 'interesting' crop of the first one. |

The second shot is much better - the drop is the center of attention and at the center of the shot. The little starburst is also so much more noticeable. |

Agreed second shot just too much going on in the first, if you could have gotten a section with out seeds it would have been even cleaner and the drop would have jumped more.

Thanks for the thoughts.
Yea, I knew I should have not got creative. Maybe next time I have this situation I will go with the one I like better.

That's a toughie. I like the first one but for more of the water/ice/spritz thing at the bottom that makes me think action and fresh. I like the second one for the close crop and the detail in the drop. If looking at both as which one would I have scored higher in the center composition challenge it would have been the second one.

You are being MUCH too hard on yourself! Everyone makes this kind of wrong decision all the time. In Centered I think my out take would have scored way better than the one I did enter. I really couldn't decide so I asked my husband which one he liked better and entered the one the picked. At least, now, I can BLAME him!:) He's an engineer with a personality very much like Mr. Spock - should have known better. |

HA! You're hardly stupid! what a great setup... with the backlighting and the transparency of th eorange... I especially like the shine on the droplet. It makes a tiny star pattern where it flares.
Again, these are both great shots. I do prefer the second one for the same reasons many others have mentioned. I would also like to add that perhaps you should consider re-cropping.. to a more standard size or even square. The tall, skinny crop is a bit uncomfortable for me. |
