Agreed, and it turns a lot of people away from commenting, then we wonder why we get low votes with no explanation for it.

One thing we can do is when you get a critique that helps explain a poor average, after the challenge, PM the commenter and let them know it was appreciated.

Unfortunately, positivity isn't DPC's forte, outside of a few select, very eccentric individuals. lol. Indeed, it even sucks the positivity OUT of some of us that tried really hard, in the beginning.

I noticed.

Just because I "disagree" with a comment doesn't mean it can't be helpful -- I almost always find it helpful to know how some stranger perceives/interprets the image, even if what they find "wrong" with it was quite intentional.

Sometimes a comment of "rubbish" or "crap" is perfectly appropriate ... ;-)

obviously if the comment was helpful to you then you would mark it helpful or don't check it at all. The comments left by others would only be checked "not helpful" by you and only you.

The requisite number of animal sacrifices have not yet been performed, and thus this feature request will continue to go unanswered.

I just think that I should have the option of telling someone that their comment isn't helpful without coming straight to them and saying "your comment wasn't helpful". creating a check box would let user "soandso" know that he has xxx number of comments that he left and were not helpful to the people he left them too.

I have left some very helpful comments, that went into a lot of detail in the past. Out of all comments they were not marked helpful and some even wrote to me to tell me how bad my comment was. The basic line was that the comment on their crap photo that scored a 5, did not suck up to their huge ego. It has turned me away from commenting at all, let alone leave helpful comments. Fact is that there is a considerable crowd who only likes "you are so great" comments.

The medicine might be worse than the illness.

And the that like those comments would check the "this comment was helpful button". I like those types of comments too but how is that helpful to me on a picture that isn't scoring a 6, all I'm saying is if you left me a comment that I didn't not find helpful I would check this comment was not helpful. Just because you leave a "detailed" comment doesn't actually mean that the comment was helpful to the person you left it to.

Does an avian sacrifice count?

Once again if anyone missed it, the check box would work the same as the helpful comment box would. So the user can check it at their discretion.

If I can be serious for a moment, I once advocated for a change of wording for that check box. That, I think (or a drop-down menu, which is the other suggestion I really like), is the way to go. Just putting a 'mark as unhelpful' box is simple redundancy. It'll only just become another box to click, just like the one we have now, and nobody will truly use it for its intended purpose. What is 'helpful' and 'unhelpful' anyway? Subjective crap that means nothing.

I would check both boxes on every comment. I just hate unchecked boxes.

I like the idea of a drop down menu, maybe with multiple responses or selecting something else besides a helpful/non helpful comment. Now that it's out there if we get enough people to ask for it surely D&L would do something about it. HAHAHA

Why is it so hard to just ignore said "unhelpful" comments?

I have the urge to check them for some reason.
