It turns out that this was not a good example. My focus wasn't right on the money.

Here is another 100% crop where the focus is good. This one was without mirror lockup, but I did another with lockup and could not tell a difference. This is straight out of the camera basically. I shot it in raw but I did adjust the white balance. I didn't add any sharpening because sharpness at 100% (and noise) is what I am trying to see. |

What he said makes some sense, but the image size on the monitor is simulating print size. It is indeed at 72 ppi, but it is a resampled view which more closely prepresents the actual print.
At any rate, when the printed DPI is tighter, the noticeable noise becomes mostly invisible when comparing it to a 72 dpi print. |

Which are you making more money from, iStockPhoto or Dreamstime?
$0.5 or $0.1 seems awfully little... I shot a photo for the cover of some CD yesterday and got $200 for it, which is probably around or less then 1/3 of what professionals charge, but this project took me about 3 hours (with post processing). I uploaded the images to my web server and sent the customer a link (usually I write them on a CD, but he chose to have them uploaded), so there's no cost for me. Seems much more remunerative then this stockphoto struggle you've been descibing.
But... maybe I'll try this out, must be some reason why all of you are so interested in this =)

I have sold 3 images for a total of $2.50 on dreamstime and none so far on istock. Istock is slow to approve and 6 out of my first 9 have been rejected anyway. Its not really a struggle. I'm just learning about their requirements, whether I like them or not. In the future, when I see decent opportunities for 'stock' I will just shoot them and upload them as they materialize.
I just think it's easy money. There is nothign wrong with doing both. You can certainly do work for hire at the same time. |

The thing is it all takes some time to make money..the more images you have up there the more money you will make and the faster you will make it...They say that in a year each image you have on IStockphoto will make a min. of $1.00 each...I have 341 photos there so I hope to make $341.00...But I have already made $180.00 since Feb...

Afraid not Melissa, white page with a boat tour link,go to your page without logging in and take the link from there.then just try it yourself from the preview option in the forum, I know it is a pain :)
Paul.
p.s. you probably have a cookie on your pc so log out on angelfire first.

It works fine for me and I blocked all cookies while it was loading.
One suggestion, there are a few grammatical errors in your bio on the front page that you might want to fix or I just may be picky.

Nope, just a blank page with two banners at the top.
The address bar was correct.Even turned off my Norton and still the same, no pics, ah well,
Paul.
Colette, the cookies I refer to are just on Melissa's pc, if at all, to save her logging in all the time.

I sent you a PM. You'll notice that there is a period where I meant to put a comma (just before the name of your camera). Other than that, it is only a suggested rewording.

Are any of you having trouble reconciling what looks good to you with what would make good stock?
I've perused some of the images on both istock and dreamstime and to my (admittedly untrained) eye the quality isn't always that great. Perhaps its being exposed to the fantastic images found here, but I'm finding it difficult to figure out what I could use as a stock image without it being boring and flat.
I've only had one of my shots accepted to both sites so I'm trying to determine exactly what kind of mindset I need to go in with. My rejected pile (okay only 4) is mostly because of artifacts from compression or noise but I'm not even sure the subjects are something that is worth my time to edit, profit-wise. What's the point if no one needs it, in other words.
Any tips from you experts and soon-to-be experts on stock photography?
- Sia
PS: I did get my first download and am at $.30 on istock. Yay!

I'm using Netscape 7.1 without a problem (page seems to load fine and I can navigate to other pages and sites linked to from the main page). I haven't tried in IE6.
