I have a few DNMC comments. People...for goodness sake, the subject has to be moving in or out of the frame....it doesn't say that it has to be from the side....it could be from the top, bootom, back, front or sides.....sheez! People are so restricting in their ideas sometimes!

yup, it is like horse blinders. Some people can not see outside the box or think outside the box, they live in a box, belong in a box, need to be boxed, I think it would be useful to have the challenge description somewhere on the photo voting page perhaps just below the voting scale to remind the Box Jockies what they are supposed to be looking for.

I think in some cases it's also the 'subject' that confuses things up. As in people may have different definition of what the subject of the image is and from there whether it's moving or not.
I have trouble with the waterfall photos for example because in my head the subject of the photo is the waterfall itself, which isn't going anywhere rather than the water itself which is moving. It's a fine line and I understand where the people who see the subject as the water are coming from etc. |

Aha, I see where your coming from with this, there are actually 2 elements in my image and maybe peeps are opting for the inanimate object rather than the able to move by itself subject, either that or its utter carp. I did have a comment from somebody else that is more likely to be the reason for my low score and tend to agree with it but achieved my personal brief so can't really gripe about the 4.4 score ;) |

I got a DNMC comment too. My subject is live, moving, and about to go out of the frame. Not sure what else they thought was the subject.
I guess I am not DPC enough- my last challenge (Low Key) started below five level too (and almost made it up to five by the end). My free studies have not been in the top half either. But I will still shoot what I think I like and hope the voters like them too.

Looks like the person got a message. My comment has changed. Score is still not that great though. More than one person not impressed with it.It went down slightly with the last two votes.

Yep I would find it quite likely that a bunch of your low scores might be from people deciding that the inanimate object is the subject which would potentially make it a complete DNMC.
I think to score high it's easiest to have a good photo that nails the challenge matter in a very obvious and non controversial and in the box sort of way. There's more to photography than high scores here though and it can be just as fun having a more unconventional image that hopefully strikes a chord with a handful of people.
I've done both, I think my most fun challenge experience really was when I submitted a blurry cat photo to the best of 2008 challenge. |

My score has bounced all over so far. I was at 6.2 after about 20 votes, at 5.7 after 40, and now back over 6....who knows where this one is going to end up. |

I was the person who posted a few of you with DNMC for having a human in the picture. During the time of taking pictures, my friend told me thw two challenges and what they entailed, when he told me in/out he said it can't be a human, so all during the picture process I had that mindset. When voting I was tired, and read the challenge the way he had told me, and definitely confusing need not with must not.
I realized my mistake when going back through the pictures. I changed my vote and comments on the affected images. Afterwards I noticed I had a few emails from members. I sent those members responses apologizing and explaining my mistake.
I just wanted to post on here and apologize to anyone who may have gotten a dnmc from me. You can be assured your vote from me is now a correct vote.
Again, I'm very sorry for the confusion and any trouble I may have caused. |

You caused no trouble - just the usual excitement of the challenge. Hey, it gave us all something to talk about on the thread for a couple days. Heck, you are now FAMOUS!! ;-) |
