Sorry, I disagree wholeheartedly... Technical merit is every bit as important as communication. In fact I would go so far as to say that without technical merit, communication is hampered at best, if not completely impossible.

Not an argument :) I just disagree :)

Well, I agree and disagree with both of you.
I think both of you have it right to a degree.

Some of the best photos I've ever seen have been technically flawless captures which are just perfect!

Others though have been incredibly moving, appealing and compelling despite their very obvious technical flaws - though I wouldn't even say technical flaws as much as I'd say the artist's decision NOT to follow what would normally considered to be the "rules" of a good picture.

Both extremes have their place in a world full of individuals, each of whom have such diverse and complex tastes.

I agree with your disagreement with the agreement that I disagreed to agree with...

... but ... I disagree (or maybe it's agree, I'm not sure at this point) that a decision not to follow a "rule" is not a technical flaw at all... When done well, breaking a rule has tremendous merit. In fact, I think we need a "Rule of Breaking a Rule" :)

Anyone follow that one? :)

Yes, but crummy comments and flaky voters are the only reson to consider upgrading to Subscriber status. This way at least those who are a bit more serious about this stuff would be the ones voting.

Is there any way to get a list of who's a Subscriber?
